About Hourglass Education

From day one, Hourglass has understood that our role is simple – to introduce the best possible teachers to schools offering the best possible roles.

 

Over the years, as well as getting to know hundreds of excellent UK teachers, we have searched far and wide to find high-calibre candidates for our client schools. This has taken us literally all over the world, and we have learnt a great deal about international relocation and successfully inducting overseas teachers along the way.

 

In 2019, Hourglass teamed up with Pertemps Professional Recruitment (PPR). This partnership worked from day one as we have a shared commitment to ambitious recruitment, operating with honesty and integrity and a passion for working with people.

 

We have now joined forces with PPR’s other education business, Pertemps Education Network (PEN). PEN continues to find agile, energetic and reliable temporary teachers and support staff for their schools. Hourglass’ focus is still specialist recruitment: permanent teaching posts, candidates from overseas, and leadership appointments.

The service offered by Hourglass education was superb. The staff are very warm and friendly. Throughout the recruitment process I felt homely and secure. I knew that my future was in good hands. I was given the assurance that all will be well and so I felt comfortable with the service provided by Hourglass Education. Also the recruitment process is very detailed and accurate. “I found Hourglass extremely professional and caring. Dan, Claire, Allison and Matt dealt with me and they would give me all the necessary information. l had lost hope in finding a school which would sponsor me, but thanks to Hourglass l have signed my contract and start my new job on the 1st of September. Taking that bold step to teach into a new country can be daunting, especially when you do not know anyone in that country. Such was my concern as an overseas teacher until I met the Hourglass team. From my initial contact with Hourglass through to being approved by the directors and later being offered a job at a school, I was utterly impressed with the entire process and progress. My consultant Allison, was extremely professional, and showed tremendous interest in helping me to secure a job placement. She explained to me all the relevant information that was required and kept me up-to-date on what was happening along with the next steps to be taken. Meeting the directors, Geoff and Louise in Jamaica was a wonderful experience. They were extremely courteous, approachable and informative. They have a wealth of experience recruiting overseas teachers. This was evident by the way in which they explained and answered all my questions and concerns, sometimes even before I asked them. Their level of interest and expertize in recruiting, placing and relocating overseas teachers allowed me to feel confident and secure in my move to the United Kingdom. I am Trudy-Ann Cheverria, a Jamaican teacher of English. Hourglass is the best recruitment company in the world. When I first sent my application I doubted that I'd ever hear from them, I wondered if I was wasting time. The very opposite happened and since the day my consultant Allison (The best consultant without a doubt) contacted me my life changed. Hourglass guides you through the entire process of applying and securing a job in the UK, they made it so easy. If for any reason I was uncertain about anything, I could email or call and the consultants would assist almost instantaneously. Hourglass gives clear, detailed information as it regards the application process, you are never unsure as it is clearly stated and explained thoroughly. My dream is to impart knowledge and touch the lives of as many children as possible and hourglass made this dream a reality. I was initially contacted by Hourglass when they found my email on an education website in Ontario, Canada. Of all the numerous agencies that had been contacting me and sending me information, I had a really good feeling about Hourglass. From my first contact with them end of June 2014, I felt really happy with them. I have worked 2 long term contracts that I got through them, and when I found out my second was not going to be extended, Ros and Helen were great and started to get my profile out straight away. The next day, another consultant contacted me with a potential school, and an interview has been set up- less than a day after my profile being sent out. If any friends of mine back home want a recommendation for who to go with over here, I will definitely recommend Hourglass!

I was introduced to hourglass in June of this year and I was very skeptic. After the first professional phone call I was overwhelm by the speed and care the team had shown to brought me to this point. The worked like a friend, making you feel like a family to a point where I completely put my trust in them. There is so much to testify about the hourglass team that I will just leave it to an individual to gain his or her own experience. Therefore, I would recommend hourglass to any teacher who want to be sure of a job and to be with a professional group that will ensure a smooth transition.

I found Hourglass to be incredibly supportive throughout the process of applying for work. Excellent agency. They were with me every step of the way, they supported me fully throughout the whole process. Nick was fantastic and fully informative. He was always ready to answer any of my questions regardless of however many times I rang. I've now started a permanent contract at a school that I was recommended by Hourglass. Allison from Hourglass approached me in September regarding potential teaching work. Many agencies make contact with me but Hourglass stood out as being different. I briefed Allison on my employment needs and within half an hour she came back to me with a job offer in the school I wanted with a significant salary increase. I was impressed. The verification process was fairly convenient and included a CRB check at no additional cost. I feel valued and confident that this agency are working for my best interests.

I put my CV online on a job website around 10pm one night, at 7:58am the next morning this agency rang me to offer me a range of opportunities. I referred my friend to them and they secured her a job within a week. Myself, once I decided to join them, they also secured me a role at an outstanding school within the week. The Tempest sisters were my recruiting contacts and they have been warm, friendly, professional, efficient and genuinely interested in making good matches between teacher and school requirements. They recognise the demands of teaching and empathise wisely enough to find appropriate placements while making one fully aware of the options available.

As an international teacher, moving countries can be a very exhausting, expensive and a very scary matter. Often recruitment agents can be less than professional and leave you stranded when you are in hot water. From the very first time when I was called (Hourglass called at a precise time and used the phone - no cheap Skype calls) I knew I could depend on them. Their attention to detail and caring about the well-being of the teacher made trust them. Over the period of time from the interview till I relocated and got my contract I have always been able to call Hourglass and speak to somebody and they would immediately resolve matters. Not only have they resolved matters with the school but also with an estate agent! I can honestly say that I have spoken to tens of recruitment agents/companies over the last 8 years and I would not move countries with an agent that I could not depend on! Not only did they get a job for me, but they got me a job in an outstanding school.

The people at Hourglass Education were extremely supportive and helpful throughout my experience with them. I was working in Southern Africa at the time, but with Hourglass Education, and in particular Allison, Claire and Jen, such a distance was no problem at all and they were very understanding and knowledgeable about overseas recruitment. Responses were always very prompt and everyone I spoke to at Hourglass was extremely good natured and happy to help.  And most importantly, they got me a great teaching position at an excellent school. I strongly recommend Hourglass Education, especially to teachers working abroad.

Hi Geoff, I would like to tell you how pleased I am with the service and support I received from Hourglass education. I have recently accepted a teaching post starting September. Your entire team was extremely professional and helpful every step of the way. I started with Jen who introduced me to the various consultants - James, Helen, Ros, Alison and Charlotte. As an overseas trained teacher I was concerned about approach schools as I require visa sponsorship. The team steered me in the right direction and we are off to the races..
