About Hourglass Education

From day one, Hourglass has understood that our role is simple – to introduce the best possible teachers to schools offering the best possible roles.

 

Over the years, as well as getting to know hundreds of excellent UK teachers, we have searched far and wide to find high-calibre candidates for our client schools. This has taken us literally all over the world, and we have learnt a great deal about international relocation and successfully inducting overseas teachers along the way.

 

In 2019, Hourglass teamed up with Pertemps Professional Recruitment (PPR). This partnership worked from day one as we have a shared commitment to ambitious recruitment, operating with honesty and integrity and a passion for working with people.

 

We have now joined forces with PPR’s other education business, Pertemps Education Network (PEN). PEN continues to find agile, energetic and reliable temporary teachers and support staff for their schools. Hourglass’ focus is still specialist recruitment: permanent teaching posts, candidates from overseas, and leadership appointments.

I had the privilege of working with two members of the Hourglass team, Holly Bancroft and Ed Hyland. The teamed helped me to secure a Science teacher position within the UK. They were very helpful in offering guidance on how to approach the interview, the entire visa application process, bargaining so that I got the best possible wage and the things I should get done once landing in the UK. The staff at Hourglass is professional, informative, reliable and supportive. Ed was very detailed about the recruitment process and kept me updated as things progressed. I was notifed whenever my resume was sent out to schools and I was given useful interview tips. Nina was very helpful with any questions or concerns I had about the relocation process. Claire kept me constantly informed about all that was taking place during my application as an overseas teacher. It was a pleasure having teaming with Claire. It was not all smooth, but even when covid-19 derailed many plans, there was always a concerted effort to land me a good job.

I was in a dire situation looking for a school which would be willing to sponsor me to stay in the country and James was able to confidently take me through the process and eventually put me into contact with a school which was able to do just this. He also provided all the necessary information on applying for a Skilled Worker Visa. I can't recommend Hourglass education enough.

James offers a very professional, polite and humane service - he astutely understands the experience, credentials and needs of the teachers he is working with. He has matched me up with a school that aligns so well with both my past experiences and my interests as well as finding a school in which I feel at home, it was the very first school he sourced and I liked it so much I accepted immediately. Despite having almost a decade’s experience in education this was the first time I approached an agency based on it being highly recommended by another teacher and I have to say I was incredibly impressed. I can see why so many good schools are connected with Hour Glass and with long term to permanent positions - they clearly are providing schools with high quality staff in a way that is far more efficient for both schools and teachers. I would recommend them to any colleague or friend in teaching.

Without Josh Travis I wouldn't have found this school. Monday I registered with the agency and on Friday I accepted an offer. I received information about 6-7 schools in between, and I always felt I had a choice. The human side is very important for me, and Josh matched me with a school which resonates with my value system. He was there, answering all my questions, and soon I could take a decision. This way it was much shorter, much less stressful and I could focus on the professional side of the interview, which makes a huge difference. Amazing, outstanding job: many thanks for that!
