About Hourglass Education

From day one, Hourglass has understood that our role is simple – to introduce the best possible teachers to schools offering the best possible roles.

 

Over the years, as well as getting to know hundreds of excellent UK teachers, we have searched far and wide to find high-calibre candidates for our client schools. This has taken us literally all over the world, and we have learnt a great deal about international relocation and successfully inducting overseas teachers along the way.

 

In 2019, Hourglass teamed up with Pertemps Professional Recruitment (PPR). This partnership worked from day one as we have a shared commitment to ambitious recruitment, operating with honesty and integrity and a passion for working with people.

 

We have now joined forces with PPR’s other education business, Pertemps Education Network (PEN). PEN continues to find agile, energetic and reliable temporary teachers and support staff for their schools. Hourglass’ focus is still specialist recruitment: permanent teaching posts, candidates from overseas, and leadership appointments.

I was very happy with Hourglass Education agency. They found me a fantastic post at a good school Norfolk and secured the position with a fixed contract that not many agencies seem to do. What can I say about the brilliant people at Hourglass education? They are simply superb!!! And that is an understatement. Sharon Tempes in particular, right from the start of the process, was very encouraging and provided friendly and caring advice whenever needed no matter how busy she was.

I was approached by Hourglass Education having encountered my CV and following a discussion about my teaching background reckoned they knew of a school that had my name written all over it - the representatives words! She passed both the school and my details over to another colleague who was looking after the school they had in mind, who then did the majority of the leg work and got me an interview. I impressed at interview and after a lot of work from the representative getting all the pieces together, they have offered me in the first instance a year’s contract! A very exciting prospect with promotion at the end of it a distinct possibility. A job with prospects is a real find. Both Representatives at Hourglass education have done excellent work to pair me up with a school that is right for me - they listened to my teaching needs and took into account my training and background. Not many Agencies do that and in my experience it is more normally a numbers game, almost if he can walk - he will do! Not here! Nicer people I could not have asked to work with. Professional and thorough, with both the needs of the school and myself as a prospective employee firmly in their mind! I would not hesitate to recommend them to colleagues if I know they are looking for work.

I would just like to thank Hourglass for the hard work and personalised service that you have provided me. My personal consultant Josh Travis has been fantastic throughout in helping me secure a dream first position, always being available, advising me on difficult decisions, making helpful suggestions and liaising with the schools making the process very easy but effective for me, he was easy to talk to and I was never under pressure to accept a job just given very honest and professional opinions (hourglass clearly train their staff very well), he also negotiated with the schools to get me the best possible terms, which is something I was never comfortable with. It has taken less than 2 weeks from Hourglass first making contact with me to being in a fantastic first job and I feel this is down to Josh's careful processing taking my requirements and selecting the best school for me which shows real understanding of their clients. Thank you again!

Can I just say how great hourglass have been. Being new to supply teaching they were able to register me guide me in finding my feet with all the additional complications such as pay and tax. From the initial registration, the team were helpful, friendly and not too pushy. Any issues or questions that have arisen have been dealt with (often out of hours) in a friendly efficient matter. They make you feel part of their team, not just another supply teacher on their books. I have been fortunate enough to get a placement to suit my circumstances (long term with a flexible end date). Which I have no doubt was no coincidence, the staff at hourglass made sure that what they offered me would be suitable to both myself and the placement school. I can only sing praises of the team at hourglass and thoroughly recommend them to any teacher seeking work. I am writing to respectfully inform you of what a great team of individuals you have working for you at Hourglass. Having secured a job through your agency, I can quite comfortably say that had it not been for the tenacious determination of one person in particular, Sharon Tempest, then I would not have been so fortunate as to procure this post. Sharon is enthusiastic, compassionate and really cares about the people she works with. I owe her a great deal for finding me the right job under the right circumstances. Another of your employees, Claire Murphy, is the embodiment of professionalism and efficiency. Always able to give me correct and up to date information regarding my timesheets, RACS, and pay structures, she has been a real help throughout my relocation from Manchester to Reading, and I thank her greatly. The day before I moved down to reading, I visited your offices, and met with yourself and your department. I felt very welcome and did not for one instant feel I was in a work environment, but more a family atmosphere which was relaxed and welcoming. Kudos to you sir for having achieved what many fortune 500 CEO’s cannot, a happy working environment with an effective and professional workforce.

I cannot speak highly enough of the hard work and support Allison at Hourglass has given to me. From submission of my CV to finding the perfect job took 1 week and she was with me all of the way. Well done Hourglass after a long time out the UK it was a huge decision to return and due to your hard work and professionalism I’m on my way home! 120 days 10 hours and 51 minutes till take off!

I found Hourglass extremely professional and caring. Matt dealt with me and was very good from beginning to end - I felt confident that I would be placed in a school that I would feel comfortable at and that has been the case. I appreciated the support and advice given and after 6 years at my previous placement, it was a bit nerve wrecking to start again. My relationship with Hourglass Education has been excellent since I started working with them in March last year. I am overseas trained and was pleasantly surprised when they started processing my references before I left for the UK. When I arrived they processed my documents on line without delay and within a few weeks I was on a long term assignment at an academy with state-of-the-art ICT facilities and teaching tools! Hourglass are first class in both verbal and electronic communication. They have been very supportive in many respects including pay adjustments, delayed time sheets and other professional issues. I am very pleased with the ongoing work they have given me for almost a year now.

Hourglass has been fantastic for me as a teacher arriving from Australia with no idea about the school system here or even the concept of having an agency find me a job. Hourglass organised three interviews for me before I even left Australia and one was at the best school I have seen in England where, luckily, I got the job. The staff at Hourglass are always very helpful and friendly and available to answer any questions, they respond to emails really quickly. I am very glad I joined Hourglass and couldn't ask for a better agency.

I was contacted by Hourglass after posting my resume on a teaching website. Although I was a bit skeptical at first, I decided to reply, just to see what would happen. My email was responded to quickly and professionally. Through subsequent communications I was really impressed by the time the agents (especially Ros and Helen) took to answer my questions and connect me to other teachers already placed in prospective schools. There was very little time between the first contact with Hourglass and my first interviews and job offers, but throughout the process I felt fully supported and never pressured. As I moved to the UK and started working, I knew that I could contact Hourglass with any concerns and that they would respond with professional advice, in a timely manner. I am very pleased that I made the leap and signed on to teach in the UK through Hourglass - it has been a comfort to come here, knowing I was working with a company I feel will support me and I can really trust. I would like to recommend Hourglass Education and Dan brown, who worked with me and he quickly secured a contract for me at a school in Hertfordshire. I registered with quite a few teaching agencies and it was Hourglass who secured me work, thanks to the hard work of Dan Brown. He was in regular contact with me and has a friendly but professional approach and negotiated a fantastic contract with a school, where I now have a permanent contract. The whole team at Hourglass have been in regular contact. I do think out of all of the teaching agencies out there, hourglass provided the most reliable, professional and friendly service, so thank you.

Basically Hourglass Education and Dan Brown, my Consultant, were very prompt and very good to deal with, I would recommend Hourglass and Dan to any overseas teacher coming to England; as a foreign teacher coming in maybe more notice of requirements re: transcripts etc could have been given, but was able to work around this. Overall very happy and appreciative of service given!

I have not always had a good view of agencies having used them on a daily basis in a SLT role. However, due to a change of circumstances and personal reasons I have used Hourglass Education to secure me a role at my new school. I have found Allison and Sharron Tempest to be very approachable and they both have a good sense of humour. They are very professional and go the extra mile. I would recommend Hourglass to any potential employer or teacher looking to secure a position.
