About Hourglass Education

From day one, Hourglass has understood that our role is simple – to introduce the best possible teachers to schools offering the best possible roles.

 

Over the years, as well as getting to know hundreds of excellent UK teachers, we have searched far and wide to find high-calibre candidates for our client schools. This has taken us literally all over the world, and we have learnt a great deal about international relocation and successfully inducting overseas teachers along the way.

 

In 2019, Hourglass teamed up with Pertemps Professional Recruitment (PPR). This partnership worked from day one as we have a shared commitment to ambitious recruitment, operating with honesty and integrity and a passion for working with people.

 

We have now joined forces with PPR’s other education business, Pertemps Education Network (PEN). PEN continues to find agile, energetic and reliable temporary teachers and support staff for their schools. Hourglass’ focus is still specialist recruitment: permanent teaching posts, candidates from overseas, and leadership appointments.

I would like to recommend Hourglass Education and Dan brown, who worked with me and he quickly secured a contract for me at a school in Hertfordshire. I registered with quite a few teaching agencies and it was Hourglass who secured me work, thanks to the hard work of Dan Brown. He was in regular contact with me and has a friendly but professional approach and negotiated a fantastic contract with a school, where I now have a permanent contract. The whole team at Hourglass have been in regular contact. I do think out of all of the teaching agencies out there, hourglass provided the most reliable, professional and friendly service, so thank you.

Basically Hourglass Education and Dan Brown, my Consultant, were very prompt and very good to deal with, I would recommend Hourglass and Dan to any overseas teacher coming to England; as a foreign teacher coming in maybe more notice of requirements re: transcripts etc could have been given, but was able to work around this. Overall very happy and appreciative of service given!

I have not always had a good view of agencies having used them on a daily basis in a SLT role. However, due to a change of circumstances and personal reasons I have used Hourglass Education to secure me a role at my new school. I have found Allison and Sharron Tempest to be very approachable and they both have a good sense of humour. They are very professional and go the extra mile. I would recommend Hourglass to any potential employer or teacher looking to secure a position.

I can honestly say that your team at Hourglass have been fantastic. Nick, who I have mostly dealt with has been consistently helpful, transparent and a great listener. As a newly qualified teacher it can be quite daunting and I explained my worries to nick who was very sympathetic and understanding. I had asked for CPD (continual professional development) and support from my prospective employers. On receiving the good news..I got the job! ! was ecstatic. Any new venture comes with fears, anxiety and a tinge of anxiousness but Hourglass have been fantastic and my worries were minimised because I knew nick and the rest of the lovely Hourglass staff that I have spoken to, were batting on my side. 14 Feb 2012: I have served in the Armed forces for 23 years reaching the rank of Sergeant Major. I am also now into my 8 year of secondary education teaching. During my life time, I have experience many types of people and organisations both good and bad, therefore I recognise the differences in quality, care, expertise and professionalism. I wish to state for the record that Geoff Brown and Harriet Westby have shown all of the above positive comments. Harriet has shown great interpersonal skill ans has always assisted me whenever I need advise. Geoff Brown because of his previous expediences as a headmaster at previous schools has been fantastic in giving me accurate facts, information and has helped me move from one employment to another during turbulent times. He has been a great source for me to off load my concerns about the past, present and future of education and has given me the desire to once again return to teaching and enjoy such an awarding profession. I have registered with 4 agencies and only Hourglass with its ability to choose the right person for the right job has found employment for me in which I am most grateful. Even if I end up becoming a permanent employee at my present school, I will always have excellent and positive comments about the recruitment agency and indeed will be first on my contact list if I were to decide to move on from my present employment. I highly recommend this agency to any teacher both experience or non-experience. 26 Feb 2014. As an Irish qualified NQT I was apprehensive at first about coming over to the UK to teach in a new system. Hourglass contacted me with the promise of an amazing job opportunity in London, which I felt I had to see in order to believe as many agencies had promised similar opportunities which later turned out to be unappealing. Having visited the school, I knew Hourglass had found the post I wanted, and I can happily say I am still thoroughly enjoying this new position. All queries I had about payroll and NQT status as well as many other issues was answered on the spot by Hourglass and their dedicated team of consultants. I recommend Hourglass Education. There is an excellent group of agents, who help you very quick to find teaching job in UK. I was very surprised when Josh Travis, one of the agents contacted me on Monday, whereas I applied for some post during the weekend.. On Tuesday I received an information that one of the school is interested and on Wednesday I had an interview. After a few days I signed the contract and after a month I changed my life very quick- I moved from Poland to UK and work in a place, where I wanted to be. Josh (and other staff) are still very helpful. If I need any help they always answer for my questions. It is a real opportunity to get a job in UK and extremely fast! Thank you very much!

I have been with Hourglass for nearly a year and I believe that Hourglass is the best in what they are doing. As this year was my first year teaching I thought that it will be very hard and If I didn't have the support and the kind help from Hourglass I don't know how I would have managed. The communication and support from Charlotte Spencer and Hourglass was excellent, I really could not have asked for better. Charlotte contacted me only days after I had registered with Hourglass regarding a position and within a week I received the interview and job offer. I have found Hourglass to be almost the very opposite of what I have come to expect from teaching agencies: not pushy but polite, not officious but respectful, not rushing to fill in positions with anyone who may tenuously fit but offering a tailor-made service which even included a long and extremely helpful telephone chat about my options and some careful advice based on experience in the sector, which seems rare amongst agency staff these days. I would and have recommended them to friends and colleagues.

I was very impressed with the efficiency and professionalism at Hourglass, in particular the consultant Sharon Tempest - she was able to match me up with possible jobs within days of signing with the agency, and within 2 weeks I had secured the post I wanted. Hourglass Education helped me secure a long term supply teaching (Physics, Science and ICT) position at an Academy from April 2013. I have been liaising with James Letven, Consultant and his other colleagues working at Hourglass Education after being made redundant from a highly paid job in education sector due to re-structure. After registering with Hourglass Education, I was contacted on several occasions with temporary teaching position across the country. I had a call one day in April 2013 from James asking me if I would be interested in working at a specific Academy on a long term position. After looking through the Academy’s Ofsted report and DfE data, I decided to have a go at this position. My CV and details were then shared with the Principal who called me to have phone interview before starting to work the Academy. James organised phone interview and after successful discussion I was offered position to work on this long term teaching position. Also I was registered with an umbrella company for getting my payments and taxes sorted out each week as the salary was paid weekly. I was informed that this position may become permanent and also there may be possibility to some responsibility point based on my previous experience in the field of ICT and BSF work. I was regularly contacted by my consultant to get updates on my working environment at the Academy. This position has been very challenging especially when the Academy is trying to overcome ‘notice to improve’ recent Ofsted inspection. After successful working for more than 13 weeks, I have been offered a permanent Science and ICT teaching position from Sept 2013 with responsibility for implementing new VLE as the whole school project. I am thankful to Hourglass Education and their consultants especially James Letven who have been helpful throughout this process. I am happy to recommend any qualified teacher(s) who are looking for teaching position at Secondary school level.

I joined Hourglass Education in late June 2013. Their staff members worked very hard to put me in contact with schools and setting up interviews. They gave me lots of opportunities and I believe it was only quality schools they put me in contact with. After receiving a job offer and signing the contract Hourglass Education led me in the right direction with documentation and appointments. The only frustration I had came later in the summer when questions I asked were not answered. For example, I enquired about a recommended departure date on the visa application and received no response. This was not a serious issue and maybe I should have written my original agents -- Helen and Ros -- and not other Hourglass Education who I was in contact with. My overall experience with Hourglass Education was positive.
