About Hourglass Education

From day one, Hourglass has understood that our role is simple – to introduce the best possible teachers to schools offering the best possible roles.

 

Over the years, as well as getting to know hundreds of excellent UK teachers, we have searched far and wide to find high-calibre candidates for our client schools. This has taken us literally all over the world, and we have learnt a great deal about international relocation and successfully inducting overseas teachers along the way.

 

In 2019, Hourglass teamed up with Pertemps Professional Recruitment (PPR). This partnership worked from day one as we have a shared commitment to ambitious recruitment, operating with honesty and integrity and a passion for working with people.

 

We have now joined forces with PPR’s other education business, Pertemps Education Network (PEN). PEN continues to find agile, energetic and reliable temporary teachers and support staff for their schools. Hourglass’ focus is still specialist recruitment: permanent teaching posts, candidates from overseas, and leadership appointments.

Ed at Hourglass has been an absolutely fantastic agency rep to work with. Throughout our conversations, he always maintained an air of confident professionalism, and seemed also to possess an intuition for finding the most appropriate roles for his candidates. My case was no exception. From first coming into contact with him in March, right through to my recent successful placement as a full-time English teacher, Ed has showcased a number of desirable qualities that, as a fairly recent career-changer, filled me with trust as I embarked on the next exciting stage of my teaching career. Ed has been very understanding of my fluctuating living and working conditions, and was always more than happy to provide workable solutions to many of the potential difficulties that arose because of them; at no point did I get the impression that he was finding it difficult to match my fairly specific requirements to his obviously comprehensive and well-maintained database of schools. At this early stage in my teaching career, I don't think any other agency (or, for that matter, any other agent) could have been so dedicated and meticulous as Ed has been in finding the most suitable roles, both for my strengths and for my areas of development. The high level of service provided, as well as the friendly and professional conduct that underpinned all of our communications, has been extremely encouraging. His infectious sense of humour, his palpable passion and personable character make him an indispensable asset to such an astute recruitment agency. Dan Fryer is an incredible embodiment of timeless attributes: life changing, going the extra mile, beyond the call of duty, heartfelt, patient, gracious, empathetic, heartwarming, charismatic, compassionate –each of which essentially characterises the company or rather the family; Hourglass is a family in this case which is represented by a group of people who genuinely care about me, desire the best for me and most importantly, work assiduously and tirelessly to ensure that my well being, health and happiness are preserved and perpetuated in the United Kingdom. I did not find Hourglass. They found me after seeing my CV. The very first call from my consultant, Sharon, gave me the assurance of both professionalism and personal touch. The communication was so pleasant such that I felt it wasn't about Hourglass finding another teacher for themselves, but about them find a job for a teacher in need of help. I got convinced that Sharon meant business and she had substance in hand. I was looking for medium to long-term employment, and she had just that. The very first school she offered me was within my desired proximity. Sharon took time to explain to me the kind of school on offer, so I could make an informed decision. Once I declared my interest in the school she secured me an interview within 3 days, and I got the job. Thumbs up to Hourglass.

Signing up with Hourglass was indeed the best choice for me. The support that I got was above and beyond expectations. There was always support even with things that were personal issues. I was well guided with moving from Jamaica to the U.K. and moving from one school to another within the U.K. At the moment I am at an outstanding school, that I absolutely love and I owe it all to Hourglass Education

Having placed my CV on the guardian job site, I was sent many generic texts, calls and emails that were impersonal and, frankly, irritating. When I was contacted by Dan Fryer from Hourglass Education, however, I experienced a far more personal and professional approach. Dan took the time to introduce himself and his company in a reassuring manner that left me with no doubt that he was the person that I wanted to secure a position with. In addition to this, Dan stands above other recruiters I have experienced because he took a personal interest in my situation (they were tricky too – not far from home, but also close to my sports, all whilst in a nice area and a good school). He took a lot of time understanding the demands and needs I had and he never drifted from these guidelines. He found me a number of schools that matched these exactly and was organised, prompt and professional in contacting me, the school and arranging interviews. Dan, Claire Flynn and the hourglass team provided me with fantastic support and resources, such as interview support and feedback. After I had accepted an offer, this support continued with Dan and his team sending the documentation needed in a simple and effective manner that took very little of my time and energy to complete. He successfully negotiated a rate that was higher than I was getting through other recruiters and a start date that suited me. My whole experience with Dan and Hourglass has been fantastic, I even enjoy the phone calls we have whilst discussing and organising next steps! Many thanks to Dan, Claire and their team for the support and professionalism they have shown me. I highly recommend Hourglass Education for any individual who is looking for a position, they stand above other recruiters I have experienced on merit.

I signed up with Hourglass Education because it was recommended to me by a NQT Teacher (who got a job from Hourglass). I knew that my PGCE year was going to become busier from Easter onwards and my goal was to hopefully get a job before then. Josh Travis my consultant, has been my point of contact throughout this process. He has shown great attentiveness to understanding my needs. He has been friendly, polite and professional in his role. On my first interview, he provided as much information as requested within a short period of time and he also shown initiatives in sharing additional information in preparation for the interview. He called me the day before to wish me good luck and called me moments after my interview to see how I was. This kind of service shown by Josh is infallible! He has been highly supportive in every step of the way, where he is always quick to respond with any queries you have. To my luck and the immense support from Hourglass, I was offered the job (in March - sooner than expected)! From this experience, I have recommended Hourglass Education to my PGCE friends. Thank you Josh and Hourglass Education for the great service and support.

I have to say thank you to Hourglass for all their help. I wasn't exactly a 'usual' case and had complicating issues regarding my previous work history and eCRB documents. This meant I was on Hourglass' books for 2 months. Nevertheless, they found me a role within 2 weeks and worked incessantly for the rest of the time to support me, aid my eCRB applications and get me finally into work. I can’t overestimate how much Hourglass gave me my life back so thank you to them and please everyone else use them!

To all in need of a short-term, medium-term or long-term opportunity. Look no further, Hourglass Education will most definitely give you the support and help you need. Maria and Ros contacted me just when I needed work; their timing could not have been more perfect! I originally signed up with two fairly well-known education recruitment companies and unfortunately, in the space of 35 days, they managed to give me zero days work. As you know, this was frustrating and although I tried to remain patient, the voice of the unrelenting rent and bills continued to knock on my door. After deciding to finally give up on those companies, I received a call from Maria at Hourglass Education who had found work for me in my hour of need. Not only was the school they found perfect for me, they even google-mapped the distance from my home to that school before calling me to ensure it was right for me. To my detriment, I did not to sign up with Hourglass Education a month prior. Hourglass Education managed to do in 1 day what the other 2 couldn't do in 35. I'm thrilled to be working with them and I love my situation and my school. I cannot speak more highly of Hourglass Education; they truly are what they say on the tin, so don't do what I did. I registered with Hourglass Education and after just one phone call Sharon was calling me about two possible schools, in my local area, interested in considering me for a job.... and they weren't even advertising! I gained a part time job straight away The service provided by my consultants: Sharon and Helen, has been amazing from start to finish; Phone calls before and after school started straight away now i am settled they have agreed a further call nearer to half term to find out how things are going. Will definitely use this company in the future if I ever need to find a new job again.

I would highly recommend Hourglass to any teacher looking for work. After signing up with various agencies I found Hourglass to be the most friendly and efficient. They really considered the kind of work I was looking for and did not pressure me in any way like other agencies have done so, they really do take the time to know you and build a professional relationship. My consultant Dan was absolutely brilliant in finding me jobs and interviews helping through the whole process. In the end I managed to secure a wonderful permanent job which I couldn't be more happier about and Dan still checks in with me which really shows what a wonderful agency Hourglass truly is.

After leaving my previous teaching post I wanted to be more particular with my next role and school in education. After a few months of looking at many vacancies and meeting with various teaching agencies I found no potential role that challenged my current skills and abilities. I then received a phone call from Allison Tempest, she was friendly, easy to talk to and understood the structure of education and my experience and strengths from my C.V. I registered with Hourglass very quick and easy and didn’t have to go through the rigmarole of going to their office, filling in lots of paperwork and other mind numbing processes of registering with an agency. Within a few days, Allison contacted me regarding a Head of Department vacancy in a school close to my home. A few days later Allison had set up an interview, supplied me with a interview schedule and all the information I required to teach a lesson as part of the interview process. My interview was a success and I got the job as Head of Department, Allison negotiated a great salary for me at a great school, Thank you to Allison and the team at Hourglass!! I highly recommend Hourglass to anyone looking for a real career in education.
