From day one, Hourglass has understood that our role is simple – to introduce the best possible teachers to schools offering the best possible roles.

 

Over the years, as well as getting to know hundreds of excellent UK teachers, we have searched far and wide to find high-calibre candidates for our client schools. This has taken us literally all over the world, and we have learnt a great deal about international relocation and successfully inducting overseas teachers along the way.

 

In 2019, Hourglass teamed up with Pertemps Professional Recruitment (PPR). This partnership worked from day one as we have a shared commitment to ambitious recruitment, operating with honesty and integrity and a passion for working with people.

 

We have now joined forces with PPR’s other education business, Pertemps Education Network (PEN). PEN continues to find agile, energetic and reliable temporary teachers and support staff for their schools. Hourglass’ focus is still specialist recruitment: permanent teaching posts, candidates from overseas, and leadership appointments.

I joined Hourglass Education in late June 2013. Their staff members worked very hard to put me in contact with schools and setting up interviews. They gave me lots of opportunities and I believe it was only quality schools they put me in contact with. After receiving a job offer and signing the contract Hourglass Education led me in the right direction with documentation and appointments. The only frustration I had came later in the summer when questions I asked were not answered. For example, I enquired about a recommended departure date on the visa application and received no response. This was not a serious issue and maybe I should have written my original agents -- Helen and Ros -- and not other Hourglass Education who I was in contact with. My overall experience with Hourglass Education was positive.

Hourglass was recommended to me by a friend and at first I was very reluctant to use the services of an agency. Very few agencies have positions available for senior positions and I wanted to move into this type of role. After discussing what I was looking for with differerent consultants at Hourglass it was clear that they were motivated in finding me a position. I was very flexible in terms of where I could work however I had not decided what I wanted and therefore wanted to keep my options open. Some would see this as a waste of time, this was not the case with hourglass, I had regular calls and e-mails with possible possitions. I was allowed to speak to senoir and headteachers and get a picture of the school before travelling for interview. As you are aware you were the last consultant I spoke to and you found the position I accepted. My experience of the process was very positive to the extent that I myself developed my negotiating skills and I was able to negotiate a suitable package for myself after the interview. I would recommend Hourglass to other Teachers and if they extend their services to recruit Senior Management positions in education I would contiue to use them. From the time I contacted Hourglass to my interview and acceptance of a new post was forty eight hours. I am extremely pleased with the post which they found for me which is ideally suited to my experience and qualifications. I joined Hourglass as a Supply Teacher last September when my contract finished and I was unable to find an immediate permanent job. Sharon Tempest, your consultant, was just what I needed. She was encouraging, supportive and so positive that she made me confident and hopeful for the future. Looking back, she was able to offer me a selection of jobs, but the one she found me was ideal, and has resulted in my finding a permanent position in a school which I love. You company, out of all those that I contacted, was the most professional, offered me a selection of jobs and was supportive throughout the entire process. I am writing to congratulate you on an outstanding consultant. I am so glad that I joined Hourglass.

I have been with Hourglass Education since I was on the verge of graduating. The had lots of great schools on offer and I found one very easy compared to other agencies who just spamed your email with little hope of a job.One thing I did find anoying was the school I was hired in had no documents which I was hounded after so I had to go resend them all to the school which was a small bit frustraing ( nbut it might have just being me). Apart from this they are THE BEST agency to go through and are so helpful and nice.

As a client I was looked after by two representatives; Sharon Tempest and Simon Matthews who I have to say are superb! I was approached by Sharon Tempest after she had come across my CV online and following a discussion about my teaching background reckoned she knew of a really good school that had my name written all over it - her words! She passed my details over to another representative, Simon Matthews, who was managing the recruitment process for the school. The post was for a Head of Science role at a top prep school. Despite my inexperience Simon secured an interview for me. I managed to impress at interview and after a lot of work from Simon getting all the pieces together, they have offered me in the first instance a years contract! This is a very exciting prospect with promotion at the end of it a distinct possibility. A job with prospects is a real find. Both Simon and Sharon have done excellent work to pair me up with a school that is right for me - they listened to my teaching needs and took into account my training and background. Not many Agencies do that and in my experience it is more normally a numbers game, almost if he can walk - he will do! Not here! Nicer people I could not have asked to work with. Professional and thorough, with both the needs of the school and myself as a prospective employee firmly in their mind! They are great representatives of Hourglass Education and I would not hesitate to recommend them to colleagues if I know they are looking for work.

Dear Sir/ Madam I have been with Hourglass Education as a mathematics teacher now for some time. From the very start of my connection with Hourglass the staff has been very helpful and considerate of my needs and in some cases going beyond the expectations associated with any organization. As far as I am concerned (and I have been with about 4 agencies so far) Hourglass Education has been the best in their professionalism, their attention to detail and their support and assistance. Hourglass approached me out of the blue with an excellent job. Because they are not based in Newcastle, I had to verify my ID, documents at the PO. The school were eager, I was keen and the rate of pay was excellent. Unfortunatley, in the meantime, I got a cold call from some chamcers calling themselves [other agency] in Gateshead. When they found out that I had a job they started asking all sorts of questions and I stupidly answered. [other agency] called the school and told them that I hadn't been properly vetted (a lie), so the school got cold feet and cancelled my start. It is now doubtful that I'll start at all. Hourglass have been by far the best agency I have worked with and only called me up with a definite, medium-term job. [other agency] tried to ruin my chances because they are inept, unprofessional and underhand. If the original job falls through, I look forward to working with hourglass in another post. But be careful of telling other agencies anything about any work you do get. Update 2012/05/08 at 8:55 pm: Harriet at Hourglass has now sorted out the mess caused by [other agency] and I am starting at the school in Sunderland on Thursday! Good work.
