Signed on last year. Have had one placement which was not paid for as it was a 'trial' for schools for 'National TA day'----. I paid for a training course, an introduction to a specialism I had worked in for over 10 years. I was told this would help my chances of work. Alas this has not ben the case. So I have now paid for a training course and done a day's work for free . But the consultant is personable and friendly The rest is silence

Brighton agency: I'm a newly qualified teaching assistant. At the beginning it was good they promised me lots of work which I believed at the time! Since January I've had two days work one of which wasn't paid because it was a trail day! At the interview she told me because I was working I would be paid, I wasn't paid. I don't drive at the moment because I am learning and they always send me out of the area I want to say in. They offered to pay my travel, which they only half for. I wouldn't advise people to work for this company! I get paid very little. They always send me jobs for teachers or jobs which are miles away which I can't get to because it would take hours. There are better agency's to work for.

I worked through the Brighton branch and I found all staff to be extremely personable and helpful. Communication was great (both phone and email) and they were keen to find me long term positions, however I did decline these positions as the commute was both far and expensive (they told me they do not reimburse travel costs). All of the work they gave me was in primary schools, however up until joining this agency my main experience was in secondary schools. I was happy to do primary work though since it is a new experience and makes a nice change. (As a supply teacher, I found primary children tend to want to help you rather than be deceitful like at high school.) I was not offered work everyday but I did also decline work at times since I was working through another agency as well. My only negative point was the pay rate. I was promised a higher daily rate on my contract, but was paid less and told that primary bookings are paid lower. This was disappointing and I felt somewhat deceived but did not push the matter (interestingly, this is the complete opposite to my other agency where they pay higher rates for primary...) Overall my experience was good, but not one I would call amazing. However dealing with friendly staff made a big difference to me, especially when I compare them to the often rude, two-faced and self-interested staff at my other agency (Supply Desk if you are wondering).

having worked for teaching personnel the bigger they got the less they cared with new nasty staff who didn't treat you like a person and very little work despite being willing to travel ALL over London-dumped me when I eventually challenged them on lack of communication finally telling me a school I had gone to for 3 years on and off had complained on behalf of a teaching assistant that I was 'too hard 'on the kids-this TA was thet i'm their 'mother' type who took a dislike to me cause I treated a year 6 class appropriately and not like her babies -misbehaving yr 6 versus naughty 6 yr olds!I could tell the difference! So teaching Personnel after YEARS of loyal service DUMPED me on the word of a TA from a ''special measures' school!! DO NOT TRUST TEACHING PERSONNEL-Thanks to this site these unscrupulous agencies can be held to some account by US their 'raison d'etre' !

During my fist interview, my first impressions of them were good. However things deteriorated after a period of time. Rates of pay were very low, very rude to both me and my parents on the phone, lying and using decietful methods to tryand catch you out. Also they were always sending emails of no relevance to me. Never ever think about going with this agency!!

I have found the Secondary team in Bournemouth to be really approachable, transparent and effective at finding me work. From the word go, my consultant explained everything I needed to know in detail, identified the schools in my local area that would be suited to me and was really personable and friendly. Any questions I have had to raise have been dealt with professionally and I've been made to feel that no question is a stupid one. My consultant is really honest in telling me which schools are trickier than others so I feel I always know what I'm going into. It's clear from visiting these schools that they have excellent relationships with the schools as they all speak very highly of Teaching Personnel. If I had to criticize, I would say that having to travel to the office in Southampton is a bit of a pain and the pay is lower than other places, but this is certainly made up for by the service you receive and the amount of work coming in. I work when I want to work and they are always very understanding when I can't. I would recommend that any teacher in the Dorset area register with teaching Personnel.

This agency 'lost' my application 3 times! When I rang them to find out how my 3rd application was progressing, they couldn't find me on the 'system' and then accused me of being 'impossible' and hung up on me. I followed up with a letter which has never been acknowledged. Needless to say, I went elsewhere... one star rating as this site wont allow me to leave it blank!

Liverpool branch is incompetent and dishonest. Get pay wrong and cannot rectify it. Lower agreed rate of pay without informing you and unable to sort it out. Very little work is found by them.

The Bristol branch of TP have given me work at over 35 schools, most of which are lovely schools, over the past 3 years. I would recommend this agency to anyone looking to work in the Bristol area. It is different to some other agencies in that it is small (4 people only working there) and you feel you really know your consultants!

Have worked for this agency constantly for over 10 years.Overall, I find that they offer reasonable amounts of work at adequate pay rates. Most schools they work with in my experience, tend to be challenging. They are a business-aiming as other agencies do, to make a profit.Their staff are obviously motivated by pay and bonus rates-as anybody would be. The supply sector is very competitive, with an over supply of teachers in many areas- thus pay rates have fallen in real terms.

I worked through the London Bridge agency and found them thoroughly unprofessional. They lied to me several times, offered me jobs almost 2 hours away and were aggressive (to say the least) when I refused to take these job! Their pay rate was extremely poor and they patronised me by telling me how lucky I was to get this rate. On the few occasions when I actually got work with them, they offered jobs and cancelled them at the last minute. Schools also told me that this agency double booked supplies and the one who got to the school first got the job. I highly recommend you abandon any idea of joining this appalling agency.

I have only worked with North East/Middlesborough TP but don't recognise any of the criticisms aimed at other branches elsewhere. I must admit to not being an experienced supply teacher but they have been helpful and supportive and I have just started a permanent contract at a school placed by them. Was happy with my pay level and overall service. Thanks.

I've worked through the Brighton branch of TP for about 5 years now. I have been very happy - although I only want a couple of days work each week, I could have more if I wanted it. The staff have all been professional and friendly, and if I've wanted not to go back to a school they've accepted this quite happily. I don't know about other agencies' pay rates - I can't believe they're much different, otherwise schools wouldn't pay! OK, it's nowhere like a qualified teacher's pay, but then we don't have to plan or attend meetings - it's hardly the same as full-time work.

The TP office in London Bridge is absolutely unprofessional, they never have any work even if you wake up at 6 in the morning and call up the office at 7 am. When they do offer you work, they lie to you and tell you that you will be paid for the day. Pay day then comes and you see you have not been paid for that day and it turns out that it was a 'free trial day'. Never ever work for TP, liars, deceptive, only out for their commission.

Since I started teaching personnel (the west mnachester branch) I found all staff helpful and welcoming. I have worked in some lovely schools and they aim to keep me in the same schools which is what I want. They are always there when I need to speak to them. The other agencies I have worked for promise you the world and don't see it through. Teaching personnel are honest and deliver on what they promise. If you are looking for supply work I would highly recommend this company!!

Have just parted company with Southampton TP after a catalogue of errors and cock ups! - they have no concept of how far you live from schools and only offer you work miles away from home. - you are constantly barraged with e-mails advertising irrelevant jobs out of area. - they promise to fill in your diary when you tell them you're unavailable and then ring you offering you work when you are teaching! - they send out your CV to all and sundry without seeking your permission, even though they aren't supposed to do this! - they make mistakes like sending you your own and someone else's CV and can't understand why this is unacceptable and unprofessional. - they offer you a supply day at a school for you to see if you like it, then tell you are going to be interviewed, have to prepare lessons for observation and teach three classes!! - some of their staff do not understand the concept of apologising when mistakes have been made! I get the feeling that this particular branch needs some advice on customer relations, record-keeping, organisational skills and local geography. There are ‘too many cooks spoiling the broth’. At the moment TP (Southampton) certainly comes under the category ‘requires improvement’!

After starting well with teaching personnel up until christmas, I am now lucky if I get a full day a week. Although I am willing to work in different settings, not been reimbursed on travel expenses is ridiculous especially when you spend nearly all your wages on getting somewhere. I also feel that they haven't listened as to what would be appropriate for myself. As a university graduate and with alot of exp within primary schools I would have thought that I would be on better pay and more HLTA roles would have been found for me. BUT NO. I'd be better off on the dole!
