I can't express how much I enjoyed working for Sugarman. I worked with Sugarman for a few years and not one day went by without enjoyment. I was constantly given work, normally long-term which was good for stability. My consultant was Lucy and she always made sure I had adequate placements which enabled me to develop in my career. She was also available at all times if I ever needed to talk to her. If I ever need a job, Sugarman will always be the agency to go to for me.

I signed up for this agency before I got a permanent position. I received many emails and texts about jobs for 3 years even though I have not used them. Despite my requests I could not get them to stop. I ended up blocking their number and email. I find this extremely rude and aggressive. I am thoroughly unimpressed and think this agency is unprofessional. Do not let the get hold of your contact details.

Sugarman MANCHESTER were a great agency to work for. My Consultant was amazing, the schools were great and I had enough work. On the negative side, Sugarman did pay less than other agencies and I was persuaded to work through an Umbrella company. However, this all changed this summer when Sugarman LONDON laid off most of the office based consultants. Despite being reinterviewed, at great length, via telephone, and going over EVERYTHING again, my new LONDON BASED consultant only got me one placement; on a day I was unavailable, in a secondary school as a TA - I'm a PRIMARY TEACHER! Since then, I have had NO COMMUNICATION from my new Consultant whatsoever. I have had no work through Sugarman this academic year at all. Personally I think your agency and Consultant needs to be local - knowledge of the area, visits to the schools and face to face contact with you is essential (even if it's only at the interview stage). Sugarman is no longer based in Manchester. I WOULD NOT recommend joining this agency.

Sugarman were the first agency I signed up to, and unfortunately I feel they took advantage of my unfamiliarity with agencies. I required either a position at a school where they would be understanding that I needed a day off at short notice to pursue my other career, or day-to-day supply to allow the flexibility I required. They found me a school they assured me would allow me to take days off. The school however were not aware of this arrangement, which caused friction. I only found out after a few months that every time I took a day off, Sugarman told the school that I was ill. I was unhappy with this dishonesty (which reflected poorly on Sugarman as opposed to me, as I would tell the school the real reason behind my absence each time) and insisted that they were upfront with the school, however they were not so (Sugarman always insisted that I not talk to the school directly about my situation, something I found to be very strange). When I finally decided that it would be less hassle to simply discontinue working at that school (it also was too far out for me to travel to conveniently), they first claimed that it would be unlikely I would find anywhere else, before assuring me that they would do their best to find me day to day work. However, they only ever contacted me about that one school again. In the end I realised that they were not being honest with me and so I left them. I would not recommend them to anyone.

I have worked through Sugarman on two separate occassions. The first time (four years ago) I signed up for a specific role in a specific school and it ran smoothly. This time I applied as supply. I registered in November. My first job finally starts in three weeks. For the past four months they have failed to get me any work that fits my criteria (short-term or part-time). At one point, when I had not heard from Sugarman for over two weeks, after promises they would make contact with more local schools in the attempt to find me even a single day's work, I rang them to query this lack of contact (I had not been too worried as I had some admin work through anther agency for a while). It turned out that the employee who was handling my case had left the company and noone had taken over his job to find me work. More recently I have been shocked at the poor literacy level of the employees working at Sugarman. I would expect better spelling and grammar from an agency involved in education recruitment - even a simple spell-check would correct the majority of the mistakes in emails.

I worked with a Secondary Consultant in Birmingham who i felt had my best needs at heart. He was great he kept in constant touch and found me a position at a local school in Coventry. I have now gone back to him to find another position with more responsibility.

I am very an happy with Sugarman Education as I have worked for them as a TA for over a year now. For the last couple of weeks now I have not been supported by the team and the worst of all I have not been paid for my work at a playgroup. I sent my time sheet on time and after many phone calls with them the help and support was not there. I had one member of the team tell me over the phone that if I had someone who can lend me the money to pay my bills. HOW DARE THE SAY THAT TO ME. I will not recommend Sugarman Ltd Education to any company or any other colleges who wish to seek temporary work.

Stay away- Avoid this agency. This is one of worst teaching agencies I have ever seen. They tend to exploit rather than support their supply teachers, They care most about increasing income (by pleasing client schools) and care least about teachers or their welfare. Any complaints and you will get black listed. The system is not transparent so teachers never receive any feedback and are often refused work without them knowing why. M

Horrible experience..after registration I was called for interview after 3 weeks.. After submitting all documents I waited for a month and got no reply.. Then I began to send my agent emails to know what was happening.. It was only after 2 months that I received an email saying that I still needed to update my CRB.. Which meant a few weeks of more waiting.. All this while i had been asking them to let me know what was needed just to save time but they bothered to check only after 2 months!!! I am was new to the country with very little money and these people wasted almost 3 months of my time waiting for a job which I never found.

Stay away from Sugarman. After my experience, and others who I introduced to the agency, I will never work through them again. These people seem to believe they are above any governing body out there and they can become very unprofessional and personal. Again I agree with what others have said regarding them only caring about making their cut on the back of your work as a teacher. I have many examples. In this example instead of stating the member of staff's name I will simply state 'the agency'. One teacher that I introduced to them was called one morning to go to a school, but she was called late in the morning. She didn't want to go because she lived some distance away and didn't want to turn up so late. She voiced this but the agency insisted that she go in, stating that the agency will let the school know why she was late. So she went. When she arrived at the school, the agency hadn't told the school anything and when she contacted the agency the representative behaved as if they hadn't had any discussion about contacting the school at all, and the agency pretended that she was annoyed that she was late. Not only this but after traveling for so long to get to a job that she didn't want as it was too far, would take too long and she would be too late, the agency only paid her for half the day (she used the whole of her day to get to the school, teach and return), although the agency was paid for a full day's work (this was revealed by the school). She has vowed to never work for Sugarman again. I am currently taking legal proceedings against Sugarman myself for a separate case.

After reading some of the reviews below I felt it was only right to take the time to tell you about my Sugarman experience. I have been on their books for 3 years as a Primary Supply teacher. When I first arrived in the UK I was inundated with calls from teaching agencies for jobs. I signed up with 4 agencies and attended a number of interviews (one agency cancelled 2 interviews at the last minute) Anyway, I secured a job through Sugarman and have been very happy with their service ever since. I have found pay to be about the same as what other agencies are paying. My contact at Sugarman has also found my friends teaching jobs to since they arrived in the UK

Although I have been working with them for 7 months, they do not know who I am. I had some troubles concerning the rate of pay and they blamed the school to avoid paying me they money they owed to me. Also, after being dismissed by the school in the middle of the summer because of budgeting reasons, they did not care about finding me another job. Stay aware from them because they are very unfriendly and all they want is make money.

I joined up to this agency twice at different times. The first time they offered me a long term placement fairly quickly. I didn't take it as it was a long way from me and I'd already been offered another long term placement with a different agency that was very close to where I lived. The agent was very huffy and snappy about this. The second time I re-joined was about a year or so later. There was some kind of problem with processing my CRB which took months to sort out - in the end I had to call the CRB people and sort it out myself as the agency repeatedly failed to do so. When I complained, the agency claimed it wasn't their fault, and I never heard from them again. Not recommended.

Although work through this agency is good - they found me a long term place very quickly - the rate of pay is £65 which is lower than the £70 that many agencies offer. Staff have several bad habits such as not replying to emails that were sent outside of office hours, constantly not informing me of days that I was not required at the school I work in e.g last day of term, and generally being rather rude. You get a definite impression that the staff solely care about their own (massive) cut of your daily rate and have no need to worry themselves with such trivialities as keeping me up to date. Just as an example, once I went into school as normal twice in one week just to be sent home, the first time I spoke to a person I was not familiar with at Sugarman who was very apologetic, but the second time I spoke to my usual agent who had the cheek to insist that he already told me I was not needed. He then apologised and said he would compensate me for travel - which of course never occurred, infuriating. /rant, but just stay away if you want a decent rate of pay and personable staff!!
