The Bristol branch of TP have given me work at over 35 schools, most of which are lovely schools, over the past 3 years. I would recommend this agency to anyone looking to work in the Bristol area. It is different to some other agencies in that it is small (4 people only working there) and you feel you really know your consultants!

Great starter for professionals who enter the teaching career in UK and have to blend into the system!! Really friendly atmosphere, schools I got interviewed by seem very good quality, reliable on the phone and online…fingers crossed!!

Have worked for this agency constantly for over 10 years.Overall, I find that they offer reasonable amounts of work at adequate pay rates. Most schools they work with in my experience, tend to be challenging. They are a business-aiming as other agencies do, to make a profit.Their staff are obviously motivated by pay and bonus rates-as anybody would be.
The supply sector is very competitive, with an over supply of teachers in many areas- thus pay rates have fallen in real terms.

I worked through the London Bridge agency and found them thoroughly unprofessional. They lied to me several times, offered me jobs almost 2 hours away and were aggressive (to say the least) when I refused to take these job! Their pay rate was extremely poor and they patronised me by telling me how lucky I was to get this rate.
On the few occasions when I actually got work with them, they offered jobs and cancelled them at the last minute. Schools also told me that this agency double booked supplies and the one who got to the school first got the job.
I highly recommend you abandon any idea of joining this appalling agency.

I have only worked with North East/Middlesborough TP but don’t recognise any of the criticisms aimed at other branches elsewhere. I must admit to not being an experienced supply teacher but they have been helpful and supportive and I have just started a permanent contract at a school placed by them. Was happy with my pay level and overall service. Thanks.

I’ve worked through the Brighton branch of TP for about 5 years now. I have been very happy – although I only want a couple of days work each week, I could have more if I wanted it. The staff have all been professional and friendly, and if I’ve wanted not to go back to a school they’ve accepted this quite happily. I don’t know about other agencies’ pay rates – I can’t believe they’re much different, otherwise schools wouldn’t pay! OK, it’s nowhere like a qualified teacher’s pay, but then we don’t have to plan or attend meetings – it’s hardly the same as full-time work.

The TP office in London Bridge is absolutely unprofessional, they never have any work even if you wake up at 6 in the morning and call up the office at 7 am. When they do offer you work, they lie to you and tell you that you will be paid for the day. Pay day then comes and you see you have not been paid for that day and it turns out that it was a ‘free trial day’. Never ever work for TP, liars, deceptive, only out for their commission.

Since I started teaching personnel (the west mnachester branch) I found all staff helpful and welcoming.
I have worked in some lovely schools and they aim to keep me in the same schools which is what I want.
They are always there when I need to speak to them. The other agencies I have worked for promise you the world and don’t see it through. Teaching personnel are honest and deliver on what they promise.
If you are looking for supply work I would highly recommend this company!!

Have just parted company with Southampton TP after a catalogue of errors and cock ups!

    - they have no concept of how far you live from schools and only offer you work miles away from home.
    - you are constantly barraged with e-mails advertising irrelevant jobs out of area.
    - they promise to fill in your diary when you tell them you’re unavailable and then ring you offering you work when you are teaching!
    - they send out your CV to all and sundry without seeking your permission, even though they aren’t supposed to do this!
    - they make mistakes like sending you your own and someone else’s CV and can’t understand why this is unacceptable and unprofessional.
    - they offer you a supply day at a school for you to see if you like it, then tell you are going to be interviewed, have to prepare lessons for observation and teach three classes!!
    - some of their staff do not understand the concept of apologising when mistakes have been made!

I get the feeling that this particular branch needs some advice on customer relations, record-keeping, organisational skills and local geography. There are ‘too many cooks spoiling the broth’. At the moment TP (Southampton) certainly comes under the category ‘requires improvement’!

After starting well with teaching personnel up until christmas, I am now lucky if I get a full day a week. Although I am willing to work in different settings, not been reimbursed on travel expenses is ridiculous especially when you spend nearly all your wages on getting somewhere. I also feel that they haven’t listened as to what would be appropriate for myself. As a university graduate and with alot of exp within primary schools I would have thought that I would be on better pay and more HLTA roles would have been found for me. BUT NO. I’d be better off on the dole!

Absolutely awful. Wasted a lot of my time during registration. The contact I dealt with was completely clueless and kept moving goalposts and setting obstacles over documents required. Every time I sent what was asked for I was told to send something else. If it was possible I’d award no stars. My advice is not to go anywhere near them. They’re totally incompetent and couldn’t care less.

I have been working for Teaching Personnel since September 2013 through the Sheffield branch. I have been given plenty of work up until christmas, and am now on a long term placement until summer in a school i had told them i really enjoyed working at.

The people in the office couldn’t be more helpful and friendly, and i have been given a great range of teaching experience working with them. They took on board the key stages i wanted to work in the most but still offered me work in other year groups if it was available.

As a newly qualified teaching the rate of pay isn’t great, but i am not sure what it is in comparison to other agencies. The few i have heard of it is the same amount for. I therefore cannot comment on if it is good pay for more experienced teachers.

I have had my payments at the right times every Friday, and never had an issue with not being paid the correct amount or not having my expenses included.

Ive been registered with the west Manchester branch of teaching personnel for a while now and I’ve not had a single problem with them. They found me work the day after my initial interview and I haven’t been without work since then (bar a couple of days). I’ve always found the staff to be incredibly friendly and polite and I feel that the service that they have done for me has been fantastic.
I have worked in a variety of schools for TP since starting for them and have found all of the establishments associated with TP in this area to be highly professional and of a good quality.

From speaking to other agencies they have said that they are garunteed to pay more than teaching personnel….but who would say they pay less.
Both schools that i have worked it have been great and i have really enjoyed my time spent in them.

I joined Teaching Personnel as a NQT. I was unsure of the local area schools and needed my Induction Year supported. I was interviewed quickly and cleared and placed into day to day bookings in a variety of schools. I found some schools challenging, but was impressed with the support I received from the local office in making the right choices for longer term work. I was found a placement that started in September and this has continued for two terms. The school have now advised me that they will want me permanently from the summer onwards. My experience has been totally positive and I would recommend them to anyone

Teaching Personnel have worked hard to find me work on a daily or long term basis. I have been with this agency on and off for 5 years whilst I have been at university and since I qualified as a teacher 18 months ago. They understand my personal needs and find work that relate closely to my experience and specialised qualifications. I have worked across all ages so the work is varied day to day. All the schools that I have been sent to have been friendly, welcoming and supportive and I have been requested back on many occasions. The consultants are eager to find you work and are very friendly and approachable (Manchester Branch). I have recommended this agency to friends who have all had a positive and friendly experience.

They have been very helpful and encouraging, and they have now found me a 2 term block in a school starting tomorrow. Could not fault them. Turned down a number of long term positions for the work.

The pay is very low, it is a lot lower than what other agencies pay, I was never told who my worker was.

I could bore you and go on with myself..

Awful, awful agency to work for. Rates of pay are appalling, undermining the profession as a whole. My experience has been so much like that of previous contributors. Having taught for 20 years I cannot believe the insulting rates of pay offered to me over the recent months. When asked by another agency what they were paying, my response left them stunned, “That’s less than minimum wage! How can they get away with it?” Only if we let them, I suppose.
Despite refusing assignments, they pestered me to accept and then cancelled. I thought this was for genuine reasons but having read other comments on this site I suspect that they simply found someone cheaper. Having asked only to be considered for teaching my subject, they rang me 3 consecutive mornings (and late at that) with LSA and CS jobs miles away. One of these was working with students with severe special needs of which I have no experience. It’s downright irresponsible. It just confirms what others have said, that this agency is working purely for profit with no integrity when it comes to serving the needs of the student, school or agency worker.
If we allow agencies like this one to call the shots we are contributing to the dismantling of the pay structure and a fair wage for a demanding job. Avoid them if at all possible.

Initial impressions of this agency were very positive. This was at the Sheffield office. I went through a more comprehensive interview process than other agencies which made me feel confident that they valued their supply teachers.

That was until the thorny issue of money came up. The consultant told me that NQTs were usually paid £100 a day so as I had been teaching for over 4 years I was expecting a little more. He then went on to offer me £110 a day. This was substantially less than any other agency I was registered with.

He then went on to push me into paying for a CRB even though I had one from another agency. His reasoning was that some schools ‘preferred’ their CRBs over CRBs from other agencies. Sceptical I stuck to my guns knowing they could use the details of the other agencies CRB.

After that….nothing. Well, unless you mean a whole host of what can only be described as spam e-mails from faceless consultants offering me work in prisons teaching bricklaying to primary school work in school hours away. Obviously a complete waste of my time and very nearly £45 of my money for a CRB.

I tried calling them and all I got was an indifferent and non-comital attitude along the lines of ‘it is a quiet time’ and ‘have you considered teaching bricklaying to prisoners?

    Avoid this agency.

Please dont use! It was essential for me for my primary pgce course to get experience with children in KS2. They told me I’ll will be working with both children in year 1 and year 6. I was happy with this. However, when I started the job I was only working with year 1 children.

Teaching Personnel Brighton have been absolutely brilliant from my first inquiry, right through to finding me a long term contract. My consultant was very helpful, gave me a lot of advise and has actually quipped me with the skills I need to be an effective teaching assistant. I would not be where I am today without them! Hats off to the Brighton team!!

Similar experiences as above. Charming when they want something-otherwise rather unpleasant and devious people. Dont believe a word they say as their sole motivation is sales, commission and excessive profiteering.
Some of their tricks whilst certainly immoral may well be in a sense illegal.
    Example 1
They also book you then tell blatant lies when cancelling the booking when the reality is they have found a cheaper teacher.
I was given a booking then told the job was cancelled only to bump into the head teacher 2 days later who informed me they had told me a pack of lies and they had sent an NQT who “was completely out of their depth and couldn’t control the class”. I could go on.

Also be very wary of them asking you where you have worked recently via other agencies. They often use the excuse of an updated CV. They only do this in order to tout business from the schools you tell them where you have recently worked.Touting business for TP
involving endless hassling of school admin staff-some of them see through it.

TEACHING PERSONNEL ARE THE WORST AGENCY I WORK THROUGH! I ONLY GO TO ONE SCHOOL THROUGH THEM AS I HAVE A GREAT RELATIONSHIP WITH THE SCHOOL.
Shocking rates of pay by this agency. I have been told they make ‘special’ arrangements with schools at this time of year and wanted me to work for less money. Interesting really as my other agencies manage to pay my the appropriate rate at this time of year. The way that they calculate their AWR rates from the national MPS scales is not in line with number of school days in a year, so instead of calculating a daily rate based on 195 school days they work it out on 232 days, meaning a reduced rate for a days work – supply teachers may not have the marking, tracking etc to do but dealing with children who play up to the new face is common. If on long term placement I expect to get paid to scale.

Made the biggest mistake signing up with this nasty nasty outfit. The consultants are liars. The place is run by bent double glazing sales persons. They bully you, threaten you, and are never there for you. The schools pay them megabucks, these people pay their supply peanuts. Oh yes there is plenty of work, but on low wages and difficult schools. Don’t even think about signing up with them. I am constantly arguing with them about pay rates.

Bristol office is good with pleasent staff. They pay £100 daily rate but will try to offer a lower rate for some schools.

One citricism is that they are a little slow at the beginning of this school year (Sept 2013)saying there will not be any work around until October, my other two agencies have got me work already.

I am with their London office where they exercise some sort of goodcop/badcop routine. Some of them are charming at the start to draw you in but then other people take over who can be very pushy and rather economical with the facts. They tricked me into signing a different contract than what I had been let to expect and when I insisted they pay me what had been promised they became very nasty about it. My later reluctance to immediately accept a placement with them inspired one of their managers to threaten me, saying if I did not take the role he would basically badmouth me to my current employer and “destroy any chances you have” and continued employment.

    Great, eh?

I registered with TP in January. OK so far they have got me a few jobs. But my god the London staff are rude. The consultant you want to speak to is never there. They do not value supply teacher in the least. They promise to ring back and never do so. Rates of pay are bad, you have to fight for a decent rate of pay. I wish I hadnt signed with them.

I worked with them for three years over two different branches. Work was sporadic at times and sometimes when I inquired about jobs on their website they openly admitted those jobs were on there to encourage people to sign up. I now have a permanent job (which arose from an initial 11 day contract) which I am really happy with. Having had a frank discussion with the deputy head at my new school we discovered that over a third of the money was going to Teaching Personnel which annoyed me greatly (especially as they then wanted an extra £4000 to release me when the school tried to hire me) but I suppose they are only in it for the money.

I mostly found their staff to be friendly and helpful when I phoned and could usually get who I wanted to speak to on the phone. I get the feeling it would be different if I was ringing to complain though.

The one thing about them that used to annoy me was the fact that my ‘consultant’ would give me feedback and would comment on how I could improve in the classroom. I am not saying I am perfect but to be told that how to do my job by someone with no experience and no understanding of it was a little frustrating.

When I was offered my now permanent job there was no phone call of congratulations. no offering of well done. This was a couple of months ago and I don’t expect to hear from them. Perhaps I was naive in thinking they would but it just proves they are in it for the money and nothing else. The rapport they try and build is simply to be able to leach from your hard work.

From reading other reviews it would seem I am one of the luckier ones working for TP. I would probably be more choosy next time.

I have been working as a Supply Teacher for ten years with two other agencies and also for a local authority. I have never had any problems. I registered with Teaching Personnel and I should have known what they were like from the interview process. The consultant hid my documents for months and then he left. When I rang I received lots of excuses but I persevered to be cleared to work. I can only describe this agency as ruthless and only concerned with profit. They do not care about the worker and treat you like dirt. They are snappy when you ask questions about the assignment and if there is a problem they do not back you up at all. They harrass you with constant texts and phone calls, even when you are on holiday. They bully you with this feedback thing and try to pay you as little as possible. Schools which I have worked for with other agencies seem to treat me different when I go through Teaching Personnel and it makes me wonder what they promise. I have always had this agency as my very last choice and always work for my other agencies first but you would not believe how much they bulldoze. Do not work for this agency – always find another one as there are many smaller agencies who are lovely to work for and treat you with respect and consideration. Teaching Personnel are horrible and all the workers I have met who also work for them would agree. I do not think they keep staff long as they seem desperate and plead for you to do the work as there is nobody else – no wonder.

Firstly what a relief to hear im not the only one with a bad experience with tp..when they signed me up they told me i had to work as a ta because i had no recent school teaching reference even tho i could supply references from schools i had done voluntary work in..they said once i had worked with them a few weeks and got good feedback from schools i could work as a teacher. I worked for four months as a ta bog standard rate of about£35 per day but it was only ta work. however they then started using me for ppa cover and after a few months of sthis i asked could i at least get hlta rates, i had to negotiate but they agreed,,the school in question really liked me so i did weeks on end of mostly ppa cover. when i said to tp , iam teaching day in day out cant you now take me on as a teacher since i have qts( but not done my probationary year they said no because you arebasically a cover supervisor, you are not planning or doing iep’s etc, which is total bollocks. iam still teaching, planning lessons etc, ok im not doing reports or medium term plans, but that isnt always needed as a supply teacher and besides iam traqined to do it!! they are just splitting hairs, to keep me working on ta rates but actually teaching…i feel cheated..basically iam good enough to go into a class and teach but they are using technicalities not to take me on as a teaxcher and pay full whack…the worst thing is i have worked alongside teachers from tp doing the exact same work as me but being paid the full rate…they do offer me owrk all the time and the schools really vary..they cant be blamed for the schools.. after all every town has a mix of good and bad schools and they just work with whoever asks them.. but i feel so angry that after nine months with them they have not honoured their original promise. when i crossed the rep aboutit on the phone she came out with the bullshit line.. well we cant put you in as a teacher if you havent been planning its a “safeguarding issue”(sic)..well teachers always planned on teaching practice or you dont get qts!! For me the main advantage to tp is that they offer me tons of work…but i have now decided i would rather get less work with a more honest agency..because i keep saying no to them as tp has me booked up..its funny how this dishonesty thread seems to be so common up and down the country..good luck folks and happy teaching!!

I find this particular person aggressive, rude and patronising. In fact I feel like I’m being bullied and will tell her so! By far the lowest paid agency for TA positions. The rate also includes holiday pay which means when working it out per hour is less than minimum wage. My agent was great with communication and very friendly I just wouldn’t trust the company as a whole. My advise would be to search for work else where. It is companies like this that are more interested in making a profit than finding the most suitable positions for its clients.

When you phone the ‘office’ you’re told to ring another one number ( including area code) even though the person you want to speak to is sitting across the desk…I found that out when I utilised a very direct form of questioning. Not sure how the area code can be different but if these consultants redirect calls to the mobile devices, I guess anything’s possible!

    Would absolutely recommend!
I came to teaching personnel as a last straw, I was out of work for4 months when I came across it and decided to apply. Thinking if get no where without any qualifications higher than a level I forgot about it. Sooner after I recieved an email to book an interview, I went to the very relaxing and friendly interview and was told on the day I had the job! This was during summer holidays, as soon as term started in sept I got calls coming through the agents were so happy to help and explained everything so the process was simple and easy to understand. I began working in local schools up to only half an hrs drive, the agency would call frequently with work. I worked 4 shifts in 3 different school before getting a 3 week cover placement at a school I firstly knew people at and secondly knew people there who use to be with tp to begin with! Loved this school! And the cover work carried on until Christmas, I heard if a vacancy going at the school and applied. Teaching personnel gave me the best reference! And I was hired within 10 mins of the interview! I’m now working my last weeks with tp before extolling my contract with the school itself. I never though bring a teaching assistant would be possible with the education I hold, but it was made so easy! Special thanks to the agents Rebecca Hanson and Rachael fry at the Bradford westyorkshire branch for their constant efforts to finding me work keeping work and going above and beyond for me, I’m so grateful!

I think of all the agencies I work with, TP is the least I enjoy communicating with. The pay is significantly lower than my other agencies, despite joining them all at the same time (TP did say I would be starting in the lower pay bracket but still). They would book me for a whole week then after the first day ring and say I’m not needed for the rest of the week- which resulted in me losing out on work as I had told my other agencies I was unavailable! I think my branch are unapproachable and unhelpful. They never tell me the start/finish time of my job, or the wage (perhaps because its that rubbish). In a school at the moment and for some reason I am getting paid less then previous times I’ve worked at the school! Not happy at all.

Could do better. On their last minute list, I rarely get booked work and often get morning phone calls. These are infrequent and I have stopped getting ready expecially with winter mornings. If they really want me I get mobile phone calls and land line calls, as many as 6 in 20 minutes at 4:45pm (as they need to fix it up for the morning before going home. Work coming available goes to very local people and I get the can you travel 50 mile one way to a school phone call at 8:10am, then get funny when you say no. Once rang for job advertised on the internet, only to be told it had been filled and the advert not taken down, on further questioning, I was told that adverts are put in for fictitious post just to draw people in and get them on the books.

Awful agency. I arrived at a school and no-one had told me the booking had been cancelled. I had already been offered work by other agencies and had turned it down. When I arrived I was politely told they had a teacher (from the same agency). They mentioned they had tried to cancel the extra booking with Teaching Personnel on numerous occasions. When I phoned them, they said yes, the booking had been cancelled, but no-one had informed me. I was told there was a possibility I would get some money back, the manager would call back. The manager didn’t call back. A week later when raising my invoices I called to follow-up the query. I was told I would not get paid for that day, despite travelling all the way there and turning down other work. They make enough money to cover this and it is grossly unfair. My advice would be to use one of the smaller, more local agencies.

My relationship started reasonably and my rate of pay £130 per day that was favourable with my other agency.

After being placed in some reasonable schools the agency then began placing me in more challenging schools and because I was rated as an experienced supply teacher with the ability to manage difficult students I then began to find that I was being given the difficult classes in those schools.

My relationship became more and more fraught as they placed me in the very worst schools in my area.

The relationship finished when a student verbally challenged me and pushed me. I stood my ground and this was something he clearly was not used to and complained.

Teaching Personnel’s behaviour thereafter was a disgrace. I was suspended but they never informed me. As far as I am aware no investigation was undertaken by Teaching Personnel. I was certainly never informed of the outcome of any investigation either by the school or Teaching Personnel. I was never imformed that they had taken me off their books.

Quite clearly their policy is to dump the teacher rather than offend the customer school.

I certainly would not recommend them in favour of other agencies.

I have had nothing but grief from this agency. It took over six weeks from first registering until I got work. I get repeated questions of ‘can you drive?’ ‘Where are you living?’ Which seems ridiculous when they are the ones organising supply with my details on the screen in front of them! There seems to be a rather unrealistic attitude to travelling distances/time. Somewhere that is 30mins off peak will not take 30mins during rush hour on a major commuter route! On one occasion this meant I walked into the class with no opportunity to read through plans or understand the class routine; not exactly confidence boosting for an NQT or beneficial to the children’s learning! I would not recommend this agency…off to join a new one!

After this I was given no details on the location of the school after saying they would email them to me, I was told to ring the out of hours number which nobody gave me. Rang me in the morning asking me to attend interview which I had no time to get there on time. Totally unfrofessional company. Aviod.

Again started out well with this agency – nice initial interview in local hotel. Had asked for work in or near Durham – but they rarely came up with this – Newcastle based work being offered instead. They were also in the habit of not paying for the full amount of hours worked – especially on late call outs e.g. if I arrived at a school at 9.15, after a 8.55 call out they frequently refused to pay for the first session worked.
Also, if there were any gaps in employment of more than a few weeks they demanded new CRB. checks as well as new references. Not acceptable practice to my mind when it was them who had failed to come up with the jobs needed.

Cornwall branch: As I was keen to stay n the Cornwall area I decided to join this agency as I had read good reviews (for this branch at least!) whilst working part time at my family business. Since my work hours at the shop would be possibly two school days a week and then not starting till 4 I was assured this would not be a problem and to simply let them know my work schedules so they would know when I needed to be in a local school.

Within the first couple of weeks I got offered two mornings which I took – just enough to ensure that they were able to take my crb payment from my first payslip! Throughout the rest of the first term i got offered one more afternoon – not exactly enough to be living off good job I had my part time job though I know others who were getting the same treatment without other financial support. I was also booked for a full day and a half day for the next term. Throughout the entire of this term I rang up each week to give them my availability.

The following term I went to the full day and booked a day off work from my other job to ensure I could do the half day for them. Heard nothing else about any other work. The week before I rang to check I still had the job and was told it was all booked and fine, I also updated my diary with them as by this point (towards end of half term)I had stopped bothering so much as they weren’t ringing me with work at any time. Also during this phone call it was suggested that I quit my other job as then I MAY be able to get more jobs – this was something I was not happy to do as I didn’t want to give up the money I was living off for a possibility when there had been so little anyway which I explained. The day before the job I got a phone call to tell me that I was no longer needed – so I had not only lost money from that job but also from my other job, definitely not a sign that I should give up my only income for them!

The next phone call i received was to try and get me to quit my other job – no actual offer of any work though!

During the second half term I had a phone call at 8:30 asking if i could be in a school by 8:50 – this seemed possible until they mentioned that the school they wanted me to go to was a 40 minute drive away! When i pointed this out and said could definitely be there within an hour they withdrew the offer.

By the next call I had taken on more part time work and when they offered me a morning I was already working and so unable to do it.l At this point they went on again about how i needed to give this job up!

That was the last time i heard from them personally. Since then had decided not to bother with them – not that they ever knew as they never called with any jobs – and found myself some voluntary work within a local school. A few days before starting this voluntary work I received a letter telling me that since I had not worked for so long I would need a new crb and so they were removing me from their books but i was welcome to reapply and pay for a new crb!

I have now had two days voluntary at the school I am in and the second became a paid day as they used me for cover and offered me two more days the same week – more than I got for two terms with teaching personnel.

If you want enough work to cover your crb check and hassle to give up your only income this company are perfect – if however you enjoy teaching and want to be in schools regularly don’t bother.

Terrible – the London staff hound you when you do not want, and plain lie to to your face about opportunities. Very mercantile and cold agency with not thorough enough vetting in my opinion.

In a whole half term I only got 1 and a half days of work through this agency.
Rate of pay as an NQT was £95 per day, which is better than most agencies offer but still not great.
Pay through an umbrella company, but they do guarantee you will be better off through this by paying the umbrella company charges if you don’t claim enough expenses. As i was not working enough to pay tax, offsetting tax against expenses was pointless for me, so this guarantee meant that I ended up getting the full £95 per day.
However, the most annoying thing is the constant stream of emails (2-3 per week) advertising jobs they have. Sounds good, huh? Yes, except not one of them was relevant to me! As a primary NQT I received the following adverts – teacher of English to A level, secondary experienced TAs, SENCO, and my particular favourite – school caretaker! Even after securing a permanent position in mid-November and telling them straight away, these emails continued for 2 months.

Went through the tedious registration with this lot and received no work at all.

Loads of phone calls by both parties and regular updates on availability.

    Never got a bloody thing.

I have now left teaching and what a relief it is not dealing with shoddy outfits like this.

Spent a whole day of my life signing up with TP in Bristol then numerous phone calls chasing up references, resubmitting documents etc. 6 weeks later cleared to work but told they wouldn’t have anything in my area! (Surely they could have told me that when I first phoned them to inquire about registering?)
Bit of a waste of time really but at least I had a nice lunch at the Piano and Pitcher in Bristol.
    And
The pay they offer is truly risible – I have 15+ years teaching experience and excellent references – they were prepared to pay me as much as £90 per day!

I love this agency! and my consultant rocks! I have enjoyed the schools that I have been at as well.

The pay is rubbish compared to the other agencies that I am working with, but I guess you gotta get give somewhere???

I register with this agency from August and i didn’t get any job yet. I call them every week and they just promise. I was nice with them, but didn’t worked, its been a waist of time for me. I don’t recommend this agency to nobody.

Kent agency: Having been here a month, supply work is hard to come by (or any form of work). Teaching Personnel are impossible to get hold of! If you either call or email, they refuse to respond. They are publishing ads on a daily basis seeking supply teachers, however, they don’t respond to the replies. It’s no wonder they can’t find employees if they don’t respond.

I signed on with this agency before going on summer holidays. They promised me a lot of work in my local area, so I was pleased with the lack of travel. I was asked to return back to London in time for the first week of school, which I did. I was in contact with the agency during the break, and I was given the impression that I was to start work immediately. I came back during the first week, and tried several times to contact them to tell them I was ready to start supply work. A week later, they contacted me, only to tell me that there is a problem with my certification and my references. This information would have been helpful before I booked a flight back to London!!

Gnerally a good agency. I agree about the texts: by the time you ring in its gone. That said they always make a habit of contacting you regarding availabilty and give feedback, too, which can often be a double-edged sword.

Turned up early for the interview, to allow time to complete the paper work, only to be told to come back at the proper time and sent back out into the street.

Dont bother with this agency. They will suck you in with their friendly recruiters but you wont get much work and the pay is total rubbish. I get work EVERYDAY with my new agency and they pay me £40 more per day. Read the reviews on this site and you will soon see the agencies worth signing up with. Be careful that you dont get sucked in with low paying agencies like this one. They make a TON of money from you (hence them paying you so low) they will try to give you a number of excuses for this but I wouldnt bother listening. What it comes down to is that they just want to meet their targets and get a big fat commission from your hard work.

I’ve been working for TP for a few months. I decided to join them as work at my other agency was getting a bit thin on the ground, and when comparing daily pay rates with other agencies, they promised the highest (£110).

However, things seem to have been really badly managed since the outset. I signed up and was told that I’d be on probabtion for a while (despite having worked in 34 schools with my other agency and having been teaching for 3 years), so would only be on £105 a day (the £110 was already lower than my other agency but they told me there was no room for negotiation as they had a quality mark so the council had set them an upper limit that they could charge schools). I was already being paid through an umbrella company with my other agency, and they said they could pay me through the same one. I decided to go ahead with this, but what they didn’t tell me, is that the fee the umbrella company charged would go up as they had to process 2 companies.

I was promised that I’d be given a log-in for their website so that I could update my availability. This failed to appear. I had to chase it a few times before it finally came through. So, I finally got it, and updated my availability, but then they’d call me whilst I was teaching for my other agency during the school day (2pm, 10am), and even called me whilst I was teaching for them! By the time I called them back, the work was gone, even though one of the calls was returned only 10 minutes later!

They also have a habit of texting you telling you to call about work, but send it out to everyone. I would then call up, and no-one would be able to find where the work was meant to be for, or it would already have gone. Call me old-fashioned, but my other agency texts you personally, and waits to hear from you before giving it to someone else.

They also have a habit of sending me to schools with really tough behaviour for their class teachers (without the fact that I’m a supply who they’ll try it on for anyway). I have also been sent on a number of Reception class bookings when I’m not trained in early years, and one of the schools complained that things had been a bit chaotic and asked me not to go back because of this – don’t worry that the teacher had left a couple of scribbled notes all over the changed plans that didn’t make much sense, and that Early Years planning can be like a different language to someone not trained in it.

At the moment I’m seriously considering leaving them, as it’s just not what I expect from an agency based on my experiences with my other agency – they don’t seem to care about their teachers at all!

I have found Teaching Personnel (Brighton) approachable and easy to deal with. I can always get hold of consultants when I need to and they are always pleasant when they are talking to me.

I generally get 3 days work a week, sometimes more. Most of my work is pre-booked. I am an NQT so maybe I am cheaper for them, I get £100 a day.

They have only sent me to one school that I wasn’t happy to be in and they have since accepted that I will not return to it. I never have to travel for more than half an hour to get to a school.

    What can I say…
The relationship started off well. For the first year I got a fair bit of work offered, always in the worst schools, but, hey, it was work. I was always promised that they were looking for a school to finish my NQT year, though it never arose. The staff were fab when they wanted something, but call them up and give your name and they were always on a call or in a meeting… I started to feel like this was just me, but no, it happens with the other supply staff too.
There was an incident where I met up with about 50 TP staff, tutoring in a school, some of the staff found out the school was paying TP twice the rate the teachers were getting, a mini mutiny arose. I didn’t join in. I was more concerned about why they seemed to employ a dubious teacher, who liked to give pupils her phone number!

Year 2, still no NQT placement, and some work offered. Got a long term placement elsewhere, only to find TP were putting the phone-number giver in the school too. How could she get work when I could not? Still found it difficult to speak to agents when I needed to.

Year 3, after another long-term, found that I needed to re-register. Started process in June. With every call there was a different issue, getting references, consultants losing references, declairations, paperwork, forms, repeated againa and again… with every call there was only ‘one more thing’. Eventually put it in the hands of the manager. It took another month.
By November, all checks completed and offered an interview for a school 3 counties away. Adding 4 hours travelling time to school’s 8.30-4.30 hours, plus a great deal of planning didn’t make it appealing. I turned the post down. December, still not offered one day’s work. Called manager. Offered one day’s work.
    January – still waiting.

From my own experience and from other teachers I get the impression that the agency is not one that values it’s teachers. The consultants have favourites who they want to give the work to and even though I have been asked for by name by schools, these requests have not come through to me. Many teachers find it difficult to get through to their consultants, with phone-calls seeming to be only picked up if you’re from a school (I know, I’ve tried!). Another issues I have with them is the constant ‘where are you working’ line, not because they want to know your experience, but because they want to know the schools that have regular supply teachers (I refuse to tell, if I’m getting work elsewhere, I don’t want to have to tell on another agency and risk them losing work). Also, on M4 elsewhere and £100 p/d at TP, I’m grossly underpaid.
