I am overall very happy with the friendly, honest and reliable service provided by Randstad. The staff are amiable and listen to any concerns or queries I may have and respond quickly. They give me all the information I need on a school before I start, even if it is a last minute booking.

I only wish that they had more work to offer me as they are an agency I genuinely enjoy working with.

Randstad education in Manchester, extremely poor and unprofessional customer service. They will maintain regular communication during the registration process and request that you complete a number of online training modules. I also had to bring my documentation to a local branch for verification. Once I completed this process, I heard absolutely nothing back from them or any updates regarding the post I applied for. I had to email the compliance officer involved on two occasions and they did not have the common courtesy to reply back. I rang the office on several occasions only to be told that the person I requested was out, on lunch or in a meeting. I was informed that someone would call me back, but to no avail (usual deflection techniques). I feel duped by this agency, who in my opinion lack integrity and professionalism. I would definitely not recommend this agency certainly best avoided.

The promised me much more money than any other agency but then didn’t offer me any work that met my requirements. I was looking for short term work in Leeds and all I got sent long term work in Halifax and Bradford via emails that were clearly on a general emailing list. When I signed up I brought all my paper work to the interview but then received emails asking for the paperwork for about a month. When I phoned up to ask about this they said to just ignore the emails. When I told them I want to leave due to poor service they didn’t acknowledge my email but I have not heard from them again. Much happier now at other agencies.

I wouldn’t recommend Randstad to any of my colleagues. I recently applied for a permanent EAL position at the Chester branch. I also expressed an interest in signing up to the agency for temporary supply work. I was told by the Recruitment Consultant that my position was favourable and they would be putting my application forward to the school. I waited some time and contacted the school directly who told me that the position had already been filled well before my application was submitted.

The agency had advertised a job that had already been filled and given a client false hope regarding the position. I’m still waiting to hear from the agency regarding whether I have been cleared to work having provided all the necessary paperwork.

Honesty and clear communication go a long way in judging how professional and ethical a company are. Sorry Randstad you have gone down in my estimations.

At first I thought Ranstad were great. They got back to me quickly and were able to get me some work.

They interviewed me for a permanent position and said that I would begin with a trail only for the school to tell me that I was never put down for a permanent position. I would have to reapply through the website. This was frustrating but I over looked it and reapplied and fortunately got the job.

There rates of pay are considerably lower then other supply agencies.

The worst impression Ranstad left on me was when they over paid me by a very small amount and then proceeded to bombard me with threatening letters to pay the money back. It was their mistake in the first place. A simple polite phone call would have been more appropriate to fix their mistake.

Randstad Plymouth not a very nice office to deal with.
The agent who was supposed to be signing me up was rude, disrespectful and offensive. When I questioned his conduct towards me, he decided not to register me, without once meeting me, or following up any of the references, I supplied from many local schools.
I took my complaint to the highest level internally and still Randstad, will not come to any kind of solution with me.
I have told them I will take legal action against them, as I will not be held to ransom by workers in an agency that is unregulated.
It is time that all Teaching Agencies are regulated by the Government.
They should pay Teachers to scale, by law and treat then as professionals and not commodities.
How can it be that I could be working for an agency for 2 years and my pay will NEVER go up, in 2, 5, or even 10 years!
I was paid more on Supply in 2002, than I get as a daily rate now.
So who is profiting, from my hard work?
The agencies and only the agencies.
Agencies should be forced by law to make provision for Teacher’s Pensions to be paid and a retainer payment should be paid to cover the holidays.
A Teacher’s CPD should be properly addressed and the cost of this paid for.
I fail to understand the role of agencies in Education, as they are certainly not working on behalf of the Teachers, or the schools, they are merely ‘middle men’ in the same way that ‘estate agents’ operate, for their own profit only.
Sadly, Teachers like myself have little choice but to use them, if we want to work, as schools, here at least, will not employ their supply staff directly.
Back in 2002, many schools were doing this and I could work with them directly, without a ‘middle man’ skimming off their own payments, which vary from school to school and assignment, to assignment.
We have to pay for our own DBS checks and one agency refused to help with my ongoing CPD, even when I only asked them to pay half of it. The training I needed, would have given me a second specialism, and made me more able to work, thus earning them money, still they refused.
The fact that agencies like Randstad can refuse to sign Teachers up, is shocking bad practice and I am afraid that they and their ‘agents’, are in the main ‘office’ staff, who have never worked in a school. They have little idea, how difficult being a Supply Teacher is, but why do they have this power and control over us?
It should be the other way round.
An agent should be working for me, to get me work, not to line their own greedy pockets.
I can’t wait for the day when all Teaching Agencies are closed down for good, and the control of Supply Teachers goes back to a regulated Government Agency, as it should be.
There is no place for profit making Teaching Agencies in Education, as they are making up their own rules as they go along, mistreating Teaching Professionals and some, like Randstad Plymouth, are nothing but ‘cowboys’.
There is no form of redress, when things go wrong. If you dare to question them, or stand up for yourself, they get rid of you, don’t give you the work, or refuse to sign you up.
I have had other agencies lie to me about schools, lie about available work and lie to schools about my availability, on my behalf! They have put me on a long term assignment, then taken me off it, for no good reason, (the school wanted me, the agent put another teacher in instead of me, then lied to the school) then I lost work, money and credibility.
The issues I have raised need addressing by the Teaching Unions and by the Government and these agencies should be stripped of their power and the hold they have on both Teachers and schools, countrywide.
Avoid Randstad Plymouth at all costs.

Plymouth office – EXCELLENT! I signed up with them as an NQT and immediately got a wide range of work within my preferred areas. In fact, there was so much work I got a choice of where to go! The team were exceptionally well organised, I was paid on time and not once did I have cause to complain. Within weeks they’d had me booked for a full-time position and were always pushing up my pay at every opportunity.A genuinely faultless branch of Randstad!

Inconsistent work & pay. Theyasked for DBS when I started but didn’t check it, when I asked to update one due to work in a different area they said we don’t do this.Despite giving areas I could cover due to travel expenses they constantly allocated work at a distance even when local work available. They got work placement wrong so expenses incurred by myself. So many issues found other agencies with much better standards.

Having worked for the Liverpool branch I would say I am reasonably satisfied but I wouldn’t highly recommend the company I would opt for the likes of Capita or Teaching Personnel over the likes of Randstad.

I feel that Randstad really dont know their employees. They would often offer me day shifts working in nurseries when this did not match my experience of aspirations whatsoever.

Another issue I feel that needs addressing is the attitudes of staff. Whenever I negotiated pay I would be bogged off with a standard “yeah but no but yeah no but yeah wish we could pay you that but yeah we are losing money” then to find out a lesser qualified teacher was earner said pay rate.

You do however get a good amount of work and then primary schools are generally good quality.

The staff have gone out of their way to get me work and deal with me in a friendly, flexible and professional way. I have also been offered CPD during my time with them. My only quibble is the fact that I get paid significantly less than I would if I was a ‘normal’ teacher.

Recently retired as deputy head and decided to do some supply teaching.
I would not recommend this agency to anyone.
    Summarising briefly
    (1) Sent to schools who hadn’t booked me, no pay, feeling a twit and expenses
    incurred.
(2)Consistently underpaid the agreed booking rate.
    (3) Mysterious deductions from my pay(theft in effect). The consultant become very nasty when challenged about this.
Glib and promising the earth at the interview. When I kept challenging them about their dishonesty re wages -the work dried up.
On a more sinister note the company are moving into the NQT market with a huge advert in Guardian education encouraging NQT recruitment. Vast profits to be made here.Working for this outfit would be a very bad move for any NQT. I spoke to a 23 year old primary teacher who had been conned into some guaranteed pay scheme, sent under veiled threats to a dreadful school, has lost her confidence and left the profession.

Randstadt asked me to register with them so I did. Two weeks or so later I contacted them again regarding work and to give them a DBS update. I was told my registration had been “self –suited. ”! When I asked what this meant she said that it was because I had failed to return at half term as I said I would, with an updated second proof of address! I told them that this was not true; they had changed their minds telling me not to come in with the remaining information until my DBS had arrived. The response was to imply that I had not turned up, I was intransigent and how dare I dispute this with her! Shocked, I asked her how we could move on from this but she persisted in being obstructive. The registration process in order for me to acquire work was indirectly refused. I was astonished with her dishonest, high-handed, rude and ruthless attitude and made a complaint through Ronstadt’s parent company. So they can ‘self -suit’ themselves. Sadly, I have another forty agencies calling but thankfully now I have a job in an excellent school.

A dreadful agency. Don’t make any effort to find long-term work. The work they have offered to me is way below my professional level. I am a highly qualified teacher, they offer me administrative work!

In the few weeks I have been with them, my financial situation has worsened substantially. They agreed to a minimum daily rate, only to state that they couldn’t offer work at this rate.

If you are new to supply teaching, please think it through! I would not recommend signing up for supply work with this agency.

Been sent on jobs that have been cancelled without my knowledge. If that isn’t bad enough they don’t pay very well at all (£50pd if you’re lucky) and more times than not will send you to schools that you are not properly qualified to teach in simply because they want the money. Lots of work available, but only try them if you’re desperate for work….

I have been working with the Warrington branch for over a year now. It took them over 3 months to get me registered (failing to send out my CRB check, contacting my references, etc.) They did provide me with a steady term time job in my area, but didn’t offer me a single job during the whole summer term. Once the term time started, I wanted to return to the steady job but that took weeks and weeks for them to even call the boss and ask if they wanted me back again! Then they lied about the boss wanting me back! When I told them that I had already had a chat with the boss and that she did in fact want me back, it took them just as long to get me started again! They need to seriously work on their communication skills and honesty. Very disappointed in the people there.

I have been working for Randstad since the end of last year and have to say they need to improve. I currently have issues about being to sent to schools, only to be told there is no booking for me. When I have queried this with Randstad they have commented that it’s my fault for not ringing them on my way there! I find they don’t communicate with each other in the office; different people phone me when I’m already booked, and they also lie to cover their own backs. I’m in the process of going elsehere as I’m in London and supply agencys are everywhere. I expected more from them as they are meant to be one of the best.

I have been so disappointed by an agency rated so high. They don’t even have the courtesy to return a phone call. When asked about it, they just say: “we’ve been so busy…!” They could have added: “So we ignored you!”
    :(

Not a bad agency but some short sightedness regarding CPD which is never offered and a rather abrupt imature consultant at Plymouth Office. She needs to realize that we are also offering a service and it’s not just one sided.
Work is varied in terms of the amount offered and have signed up to Supply Plus Plymouth who offers CPD, no cost CRB, three levels of pay and no penalty if you are offered a job within a school.
Like me who qualified within the last few years I need an agency who values the candidate.

I had worked for Randstad in a different capapcity before & found them to be pretty good so thought id sign up for supply with them.I think there can be a big difference from branch to branch but I would not recommend the Manchester branch at all. I did the initial paperwork and paid for the CRB. I kept having to ring to then chase them up about finishing the registering process. A few weeks later after my CRB had come through I was told I would have to wait to be fully registered as they had too many people on their books! So they took my money and never registered me! After a couple of months I gave up and had registered with other agencies, who were pretty horrified with Randstad treatment of me. Having too many ppl registered means they wouldnt have given me much work anyway. My advice: avoid the Manchester branch, there are better agencies out there.

As soon as I was registered with Randstad Education I got work almost every single day. They called me on a regular basis to make sure I was available and actively looking for work for me. The consultants were very personable and seemed to have a genuine interest in the schools and students.

Randstad like other agencies are users and are even scamming around AWR. Keep an eye on them and if they aren’t playing to the rules take legal action.

Great service overall. I’m happy with the agency.

Quaility of School is out of agency control and a mixed bag. Some good days, some crap day, but that’s the way it is. Pay and amount of work is less than it was last year but I gather that’s a typical picture now. Loads of teachers have said the same. It’s tough going, but if you are flexible you should get enough work to get by.

    Hope it helps.

Professional and approachable manner, an agency that has actually listened to what I want.

I have worked for all the big agencies previously and none of them compare to Randstad.

I do not know any other agency that offer so much training and development, and have such a great reputation in the market.

I would highly recommendcRandstad Education to anyone!!

The agency seriously left me in tears of frustration. I had to phone them on a daily basis and even then it was near impossible to actually talk to a relevant person. I was almost always told “he or she will call you back as soon as they’re off the phone,” they never did. They seemed to have far to many people on their books, didn’t pay attention to any of my requirements. When I was getting my CRB they initially forgot to send off the paper work so it took three months longer than the usual 6 weeks. Then when I wanted to register with other agencies, they held all my references to hostage and said I would have to pay £60 to get copies of my documents, which would need to be requested in writing and could take 30 days. I asked if I could just come and pick them up instead to make it quicker….which I was able to but still had to pay all of the money for a photocopy of 5 sheets! Unbelievable, I drew a line under it, cut my losses and moved on. Now I can laugh about it but at the time it was very stressful.

Previously I would have described the agency as excellent, unfortunately, the member of staff changed with whom I dealt with, and so did the amount of work – to zero. They mad no attempt to contact me, although I telephoned them weekly, to no avail. Now working pretty much five days a week for a different agency, who are superb – as these used to be.

One office was better than another as the spoke wioth me regularly and were proactive in finding and offering me work…however disappointed with my current office as the consultant did not make much time to spoeak to me or find work and rarely returned my calls or was available when I had time to speak to him during office hours.

I started working with Randstad because the company I came over with was barely getting me work. They have been amazing from the first day, always friendly and professional. They have gotten be 4-5 days of supply per week since I have started with them. I would highly recommend them!

Got nowhere near enough work from this agency and was left struggling financially. They consistently ignored my request for long-term work, instead offering me the odd day of day-to-day about once every half term. The pay could have been worse, but it would have been nice if they’d made more of an effort to get me work. They also insist on you doing a new CRB(even if you’ve got a fairly recent one from somewhere else) and paying for it yourself!
