Impact Teachers

| January 19, 2011 | 102 Comments

“In 2005, a group of experienced teachers sought to shift the paradigm of teacher recruiting agencies in the United Kingdom. First, the founders aimed to create an agency that would offer outstanding solutions for education recruitment. Second, they wanted to provide the schools and teachers with whom they worked the opportunity to marry their professional craft with a desire to do social good. Out of this twofold mission, Impact Teachers was born, and the agency now recruits exceptional teachers from Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and the United Kingdom to teach in UK schools.

At the beginning they provide you with work, but very easily take you out of their books, with no reason.
They provide work in South and West London, but rarely in North or Central London.
They promise you a rate of 70-80 pounds but they give you 65 (whilst they charge the school with 120 pounds).
Sometimes when there is no work, they give you silly excuses.

I first met Impact Teachers at my university. They were in touch weekly about what I need to come over and how the whole system works. I secured a LT role and very pleased with the service they offer and the family feel you get when working with this company.

A friend of mine who had a Long Term contract recommended Impact Teachers. I went in to meet with them. I met the entire team, everyone was so helpful and friendly. My consultant was a teacher who had taught in the UK, she knew exactly what would be expected and prepared me very well. This is an agency that is passionate about education and providing a great service!

Words cannot express how impressed I was with the level of care this organisation provides. Falen in particular was so impressive, being a Canadian and a teacher she knew about the transition and was able to put my fears to rest.
I recommend this company to everyone. The bonuses they offer really support you coming over as well. Thanks Impact Family!

Really impressed with Impact Teachers as a company. Everyone who works there is friendly, caring and always ready to help, no matter what. Hours after registering I received a phone call from a consultant who was knowledge and upfront about the whole process, I was able to describe what I was looking for and my consultant immediately gave me a few schools to look at. I had two school interviews a few days later via Skype, with really lovely head teachers from amazing schools. I was offered two roles and my consultant helped talk me through the options before giving me day to think about what I wanted to do. The whole process was smooth, and professional and I felt supported the entire time. The rest of the transition over was straight forward and easy – Impact always had the answers, time and resources for any questions I had. Its clear that this agency have been doing this for a long time, as no obstacle was too big for us to overcome. Now in England, I receive weekly phone calls and updates via email to check in with me. I am comfortable calling to talk to the office if I ever need to. I have had a brilliant experience with Impact Teachers and couldn’t recommend them more!

I was really impressed with this agency. It’s really confusing when you first start looking at who to go with, but Impact really made things easy. They supported me through the whole process, helping me with accommodation and paying for my flight. I had an interview with a school while I was still in Australia and I got the job so knew where I was going to when I got to the UK. I felt really happy with the consultants and the level of support I got, which helps when you’re moving to a new country. I recommend Impact to all my teaching friends. They’re great to work with.

Impact Teachers impressed me from the start; their warm and friendly approach and genuine interest in finding me the right school in the right location and assistance with the logistics of relocating helped put my mind at ease about a move overseas. I also love that by working with Impact Teachers, I am helping them to support their programmes to improve education in under-developed countries like India. As a teacher, this is close to my heart. Once I was here, they continued to support me and were always on hand to help out with any queries I had – no question was too big or small for them! I would highly recommend them to any teacher looking to make a move to the UK!

I registered with Impact teachers right after graduating from university. They were extremely helpful prior to arriving in the UK. I received weekly phone calls to check in.

Unfortunately, the school that I was place in is in an extremely rough neighbourhood and to make things worse I haven’t heard from them since October (it is now February). When I called, they said ‘thats strange’, but I know others in this agency and they haven’t recieved any contact either.

In addition, this company doesn’t pay you during the holidays while other agencies such as U-Teach do (while making the same daily rate). I just warn you to do your research with companies before you come over because they won’t let you switch agencies when you are here.

There are so many agencies to pick from. The reason I decided on Impact Teachers is that they had the same values as myself. The fact that they help provide an education for children in India and Uganda really struck a chord with me. They really value education and you as a teacher. They gave me all the information to make sure I was able to settle in well and introduced me to other teachers who are in the same boat. I want to thank Impact, for getting me the right school and being there for me whenever I needed support. Love this agency!

Impact Teachers is an amazing agency! Their years of experience really showed when I decided to make the transition from a small town in Canada to the big city of London, England. The Impact team were extremely helpful throughout the entire process and really made me feel comfortable and ready to make the move. I started off supply teaching and had consistent work daily in fantastic schools. With the support of the friendly staff and their expertise, after a few weeks I was offered a full time position in a school that I loved and it was the exact fit for me. I was able to do what I loved while knowing that by being part of Impact Teachers I was able to contribute to their purpose of making a difference in improving global education in India and Uganda. I could never fault this agency. I loved teaching in the UK for the 3 years I was there and I met people through Impact that I will continue to stay in touch with for the rest of my life. They really help you to make a life changing experience and I am very grateful to have worked for a team that really cares.

The adventures you experience, in a new environment, are reason enough to expand your teaching overseas. Finding a job overseas can be overwhelming and frightening, mainly because there are so many options to choose from and it can be difficult to navigate between what is true and false. Impact Teachers made that process much less daunting. The past year has been the best experience of my life! From the positive interactions with students to the extensive support you receive from Impact as soon as you land, it is an experience I will never forget. More importantly, teaching abroad in London with Impact Teachers allowed me the opportunity for personal growth and development, something I can always take with me in my teaching career!

My experience with Impact Teachers has been a positive one for a number of reasons. Firstly, I found the transition overseas very smooth and professional. I felt completely supported while trying to arrange my Visa, police checks, accommodations, etc. despite the time change and different schedules. When I arrived overseas, Impact was very quick to contact me and make me feel welcome by arranging an informative Induction meeting. I also never felt pressured to start working before I was ready.

Once I started teaching, I found the staff I dealt with very professional and reliable. I felt comfortable addressing any concerns or asking any questions about teaching placements and feedback. Impact acted as a liaison between the schools and myself and was extremely efficient about getting back to me with information in a timely manner. Impact worked hard to get me work as a supply each day that I wanted it, and were very understanding about any time off requests, either for illness or for travelling purposes.

I am very happy with my experience with Impact and am glad I was able to work with this agency during my time teaching overseas. I would definitely recommend Impact Teachers to other potential oversea teacher candidates!

Do not use Impact. I moved from another country, left all my friends and family. Was promised a years contract. The school was horrible. They decided to fire me after Ofsted came. I was left with no job, no money and no friends. I am very in debt. They clearly don’t care about their teachers. It is just a constant recruitment process to make them money. After I was fired they suggested I get a job in a coffee shop. They also promise to help you find a bank account and help find somewhere to live. This is a huge lie. Try another agency.

Impact teachers are a good agency. They did start off with a pretty avg. rate of pay, and it wasn’t until I told them my minimum that I would work for that they budged.

They did hook me up with a school that virtually adopted me and made my London experience amazing (out SW London). I did wish they were a little more organised with the “teacher/school online check” I would do at the and of the week. Many times I’d go on to the website to confirm how many days I’d worked that week, and they’d either forgotten a day or two, or just put me down for working/ not working completely different days that were just random.
Other than that, I had a great experience with Impact.

The service I have received from Impact has been phenomenal and I have no complaints whatsoever. Overall, I would say that my experience teaching overseas with Impact Teachers was a positive one. They were very helpful in the first few weeks of me coming to the UK with finding a place to live and making me feel welcome. I was also happy with the amount of work I was called for as a supply. I was promised at least 4 days of work a week and I definitely received that, if not more! I found the employees professional when I dealt with them through email and on the phone. I was also very grateful at how understanding Impact was when I needed time off. I was very ill in December and had to miss 4 days of work. The employees at Impact were very understanding about this and I did not feel pressured to go back to work when I was still feeling ill. Since I had a good experience with this company, I would recommend Impact Teachers to other teachers wishing to teach overseas.

Working with Impact for the last couple months and my experience from the start has been a very rewarding and satisfying one. I have found the staff to be very polite, accommodating and efficient and they always go way beyond the call of duty to ensure that our needs are met. I received great service from Impact Teachers throughout my time with the company. They were very helpful in the first few weeks of me coming to the UK with finding a place to live and making me feel welcome. I was also happy with the amount of work I was called for as a supply. I was promised at least 4 days of work a week and I definitely received that, if not more! I was also very grateful at how understanding Impact was when I needed time off. I was very ill in December and had to miss 4 days of work. The employees at Impact were very understanding about this and I did not feel pressured to go back to work when I was still feeling ill. I believe that Impact could improve their service by having one point of contact for a teacher. I found a lot of the time that I would tell one employee at Impact something and have to tell three others the exact same thing. It would be much easier for each teacher to have one person they can direct questions or concerns to.

This last year has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life…moving over to the UK by myself, starting a new career and not knowing anyone over here was an extremely scary and intimidating decision. But I was welcomed into a school that I now call my second home. All of the staff have been extremely supportive in helping me settle both socially and professionally. I found the first few months difficult as working with children with challenging behaviors was much more difficult then I had expected but having constant support from both my colleagues and the staff at Impact helped me realize that I was capable of overcoming anything. Overall I cannot stress enough how wonderful, caring, kind and supportive the staff at Impact have been.

Moving to a new country with limited resources is always an overwhelming and scary decision. Though I started at Impact Teachers as a supply, after only a few days of covering at my current school I knew this was where I wanted to be. This Special Education school is nothing like schools I’ve worked/volunteered at in Canada. The facility is miraculous! Complete with soft play room, multisensory room, therapy rooms and a hydro therapy pool- all of the students individual needs are being met one way or another. Because we are such a small school, the communication and support among staff is second to none. I am able to have actual meaningful conversations about my students needs to other teachers, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, my Senior Management Team and the Head Teacher. The community within this educational environment is hard working, positive and resourceful. I am so fortunate to have been provided with this opportunity to work with such a highly motivated team that are so student driven and happy to help new staff!

I have enjoyed working as a Teacher through Impact Teachers, it’s been really beneficial meeting the team – in particular the Consultants that have taken the time and effort to keep me in employment. I can definitely say that any additional progress that I have made within the last 2 years of my teaching practice, owes its gratitude to Impact Teachers.

It’s been a bit challenging at times – but I would certainly say that each time I’ve ever needed any advice, or positive suggestions towards professional ethics in good teaching, Impact Teachers have always listened to my concerns, or needs, and provided me with the best outcome.
In short – Impact Teachers are a definite favourite amongst any other teaching agency that I have been with… I like Impact, you guys are great!

Hi, my name in Lindsey. I moved to London from Canada about 7 months ago; however, my journey with Impact began well before. From the initial interview in my hometown to regular phone calls/e-mails, Impact was there to support me. Their staff were extremely friendly and genuinely cared about how things were coming along (e.g., paperwork, flights, emotions). Although there was a lot to do, they did not overwhelm me with information that could be saved for later (unless I specifically inquired). For a self-proclaimed “worry wart”, this was greatly appreciated!

Upon arrival in London, Impact met with me right away to get the ball rolling in this big, new city. They briefed me on a typical school day, setting up bank accounts and payments, good places (and not so good places) to live, and other smaller, but crucial details. As for work, I have been in the same school for the past 6 months. I don’t miss the 7am phone calls from Impact as a day-to-day supply, but I will say that when I did receive them, they were pretty pleasant for that early hour!

Of course, not every day living and working in London is a stroll in the park. I have been challenged as a person and a teacher more than ever before, but that’s exactly the reason I moved. After only 7 months in this city, I look back on all the places I have travelled and people I have met, and can honestly say that the bumps in the road are well worth it!

The Impact Team has been just incredible, very professional and prompt service. Everyone who I have met and worked with was so full of positive energy, and they were personable, welcoming, and efficient with their roles. As I was completing my teaching degree they were doing all of the dirty work and made this life changing experience possible for me. The only downside would be the money, which is not bad but it could be better. However, any good teacher would agree, we are not in this profession for the money, we are in it for the kids. Impact also organizes a trip to Uganda and they have made that dream come true as well! Very impressed and highly recommended.

Impact has been very helpful throughout my transitions. The agency operates more like a family than an office. They take care of you and ensure you feel good like a mother would. They protect your best interests as a father would. They annoy you like a sibling, persistent in encouraging you to complete your red tape.

My name is Julia MacNeill and I have been working as a supply teacher with Impact Teachers for the last eight months. When I came to London in September, I felt a mixture of both excitement and nervousness. I was indeed excited to start teaching and meet new people, but I was also quite nervous about living in a brand new city for the first time on my own. I had a lot of questions before I arrived: Would I be able to find a place to live? Will I be able to find my way around? How will I fit in with the schools? Luckily, my contact person at Impact Teachers, Stuart, gave me some great advice on where to live as well as what to expect as a first time supply teacher. He was able to answer many of my questions before I arrived, allowing me to experience a smooth transition during my first couple of weeks in London.
Over my time with Impact Teachers, I have had the opportunity to work at several different schools, teaching a variety of different students from nursery to year six. I have met and worked with a lot of excellent teachers who have aided me along my teaching journey. As a supply teacher in particular, I have been able to develop strong classroom management skills and have broadened my knowledge of teaching techniques which I continue to develop each and every day. Working for an agency like Impact Teachers has also given me a greater sense of confidence, both personally and professionally. I continue to improve my skills in time-management and have developed a greater sense of preparation, organization and flexibility, skills which I will be able to carry with me in the future. Most importantly, I have had the opportunity to work with great students who have made my time as a supply teacher with Impact, a great one.
Luckily, I have met some great teachers through Impact Teachers, many of whom have become my friends. When I am not teaching, I have had plenty of time to explore London on the weekends and I look forward to exploring the city much more during my time here. There is so much to see!

As a recent teacher graduate, I am eager and excited to begin my teaching career. I have also always dreamed of traveling abroad, and Impact has provided me with an opportunity of a lifetime to accomplish both of these aspirations at the same time. From the moment I sent in my application, your staff have consistently been in contact with me regarding the next steps for me to take to make my dreams come true. I have always found it very easy to talk to the Impact staff on the phone, allowing myself to voice any of my concerns or ask any questions regarding what it would be like when teaching in the UK. When preparing for my interview with Head Teachers from the UK in Toronto, the Impact staff were there to provide me with assistance and helped me prepare so that I could be the most successful when answering their questions. At the interview, I felt more at ease and relaxed because I felt well-prepared and confident, thanks to the Impact team. After making it to the second round of interviews, the Impact team was just a phone call away when I had any questions regarding the school and its location, and were there to help me and support me with my decision. After being offered the full-time position at Hamford Academy, I know that I could not have done it without the consistent support and help from the Impact team.

Although I am very excited to begin this journey, being far away from home is a bit scary. I had mentioned to the Impact team that I wanted to travel with my friend Laura Milne. Although they did everything that they could to help us go on this teaching journey together, there was only so much they could do. Perhaps some advance notice would have been helpful knowing that it was not a possibility that we could be living in the same area and together. Also, although I found the website on my own, I did not know for certain if the UK curriculum website was the one that the schools would be following. Some guidance pertaining to particular websites that would be helpful when preparing for the interview would also have been beneficial.

After coming along this far in the process, I am anxious, thrilled, and ecstatic about this fantastic opportunity of a lifetime. Thank you Impact!

I was living abroad and looking to relocate to London. I was sending CVs to schools, but not really getting anywhere. Then I found Impact online. I registered, which was very easy, and within days I had a call from a very friendly and informative recruitment specialist. I found the agents at impact very knowledgeable and they were completely invested in finding the right placement for me. It took a lot of the worry and stress away from job hunting. They knew what I was looking for, and asked all the right questions. They found me exactly what I was looking for! I worked with Impact a few years ago. I got my visa about eight months before I was ready to go to England (plans had changed), and the agency was super supportive and called me often to check in. The support carried on through the application process, interviews, my arrival in the UK (they picked me up from the airport and stored my luggage for me until I was ready to head to Kent – outstanding!)and my year of teaching (an Impact consultant even came out to my country school in Kent to visit the school and catch up with me a few months after I started).

I had the opportunity to go to India with them as well, and it was fantastic! It was the trip of a lifetime and it’s great to see that not all of the considerable agency fee the school pays goes directly into the agency’s pocket.

The only concern I ever had with them was that somehow lines got crossed when I accepted my job and I thought I was accepting a different position (subject) than what I ended up with, so make sure you’re very clear about that if you happen to interview for a school that has more than one job open. I also didn’t know that I could negotiate my wage, so I ended up with one that was a bit lower than what most of the other agency teachers seemed to be making.

Overall, a very good experience. I’m now working elsewhere internationally and have dealt with several agencies, and the only agency that I would ever recommend anyone use is Impact!

This experience has been so different for me, but also SO WORTHWHILE. It has given me such a sense of independence and has allowed me to really discover who I can be as a teacher (that is of course still in development–but getting there). It has been REALLY challenging, but learning to overcome those challenges is making me a stronger teacher AND a stronger person.

I love that I am starting to get a sense of the English culture (despite having the mickey taken out of me for my accent) and make new friends and try new things.

I think Impact was great with getting me ready to come here. They were really supportive on the phone and on Skype. But I think the turning point was that briefing right before my interview. Having them grill me really made me feel confident and prepared before walking into the interview.

When I began to consider moving to England I began to investigate the different agencies. Impact stood out for a couple so many reasons, but the big reason was the international development. Everyday that I teach is a day that Impact provides education for a child in a partner school in a less developed part o the world. As part of my experience with impact I want to join one of the international development trips.

My decision to come to England to tech was one that took a couple years to decide. Impact was incredibly helpful with answering questions that I had, but also by making sure that I was applying for the posts that I was the most interested in an best suited to my abilities.

Impact Teachers was recommended to me by a friend who had used this agency whilst living in London. From the very beginning I found the staff at Impact Teachers to be warm, friendly, supportive and knowledgeable. I predominately dealt with a staff member called Rachael. Rachael would call on a regular basis to touch base and she was always contactable by email to answer any of my questions. She was always cheerful and helpful and I can not thank her enough for the amount of work she has done to help make my transition to teach in the UK an easy one. The agency provided me with information about living in London, my registration, organising my UK criminal record check and they have even found me a job before I arrive. They listened carefully to the type of work that I wanted and searched for a position that matched this. Overall I could not thank them enough. I have been supplying with Impact Teachers for nine months now and couldn’t be happier with my choice of agency. I’ve already recommended Impact to a number of friends making the move to the UK and will continue to do so!

Before moving to the UK, choosing an agency seemed like a very daunting task because I knew it would greatly affect my experience of London. I researched a number of popular agencies and chose to contact Impact because I liked the idea of teaching with a cause that extended beyond the classroom. After my first chat with one of their agents, I was sure I’d made the right choice! They were hugely helpful as I gathered all the necessary paper work needed for my VISA, teaching in the UK, setting up a bank account, finding a doctor and a choosing a place to live.

I was worried that after arriving I may have trouble supporting myself since supply teaching can be unpredictable. However, my agent Stuart worked around the clock to find work for me and I quickly developed relationships with the schools that I now frequent. On the odd occasion that I am not pre-booked already I know that Stuart is just as concerned as I am that I get work that day and 95% of the time, I will.

From the moment I found Impact on Google, it was a dream to participate in one of their outreach trips to work with local teachers in India. I’m happy to say that I was able to do so in February and the experience was nothing short of life-changing. On to Uganda in the fall!!

Although I registered with several agencies at the university job fair, my decision to stick with Impact came because of the support I received from the staff. Throughout the string of legalities to be completed, there were phone conversations and e-mails with the reassurance that “we” would work things out, and that there was the flexibility to choose between full-time and part-time work. The knowledge that the Impact team member I was dealing with had also moved continents was invaluable when dealing with unknown variables in the equation. Once I arrived in London I went into the office and did all of my paperwork there although, as Impact agents say and I’ll admit, it would have been a far quicker process to organise these things from home. Once I was registered, Impact were fantastic in searching for a teaching position for me. They were in frequent contact with me regarding different schools so that I had a choice and they set up my interview/meeting almost instantly. It was such a great process that I actually had my teaching role before my CRB had returned, which is why, again, I encourage people to organise paperwork before travelling. I have been located at my school for a month and during that time my agent at Impact, Aeisha, has made regular contact with me to ensure my work is suitable and that I am supported in the UK education system.

Working with Impact has been such a relief. Recruitment agencies have always seemed intimidating and bureaucratic to me. But with Impact, I always spoke with the same agent who really cared about what was happening in my life and my transition to London. I had to put off coming over to England for almost two years; I’m sure most companies would have given up on me, but I was never made to feel guilty about my setbacks; in fact they were even more supportive. Impact maintained great communication with me, the perfect level in fact, enough to know I was important to them but not too much for me to feel overwhelmed or pressured.
I’m so grateful I now have a job in a really amazing school after only one interview. In addition, it feels fulfilling knowing that by working with Impact I’m also helping more children in Uganda and India. A lot of recruitment firms are for profit, I chose Impact because I wanted to work with people who were driven by different motives. They lived up to and in fact succeeded my expectations. So come across the pond; to the land of art, dramatics, universal healthcare, free museums, fabulous ‘football’, pubs, grocery delivery, cute accents, and the glory of clotted cream. Just ask Impact how.

From the moment I registered with Impact Teachers to the day I transferred to a permanent position at my school the staff at Impact Teachers have gone out of their way to suit my professional needs. Their friendly, hard working and dedicated staff were always available to answer my questions and concerns making my transition to teaching in the UK as smooth as possible. It was evident that they had taken the time to match my personality/teaching style to an appropriate school proving that they care about their teachers and the schools they service. Upon arrival to the UK they went as far as pointing me in the best direction to find accommodation, bank accounts, social events and a community away from home. The fact that this agency is dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of those less fortunate in Africa proves that they truly do make an “impact”. I was fortunate enough to be part of the first group of teachers to travel to Uganda and it was a life altering experience. My decision to choose Impact Teachers has opened many doors of opportunity professionally and with all that they have to offer I am not sure why you would trust anyone else!

1.I had a meeting with Impact 9 hours after getting off the plane and within 24 hours of that meeting they had arranged some work for me — they were all exceptionally welcoming and outgoing and really endeavoured to make sure I took care of all bureaucratic aspects that would easily have gone over my head had I tried to do it all on my own!
    2. I got in contact with Impact several months before coming over; they were helpful and gun-ho about making sure I had all necessary documentation adn qualifications before coming over — this made it so much easier once I arrived to jump straight into teaching.
    3. I acquired two interviews in the space of a week at two fantastic schools and worked at one school for a term and am now employed full time at the other. The transition has been extremely simple with Impact helping organising everything and providing useful information/tips for interviews and teaching strategies, etc.
    4. Impact continues to touch base with me at regular intervals and I honestly feel as though I can contact them at any time with any issue I may be having and they will help me in a second.
    5. Everyone is exceptionally friendly and supportive — just great people in general who are funny, welcoming and generous.

I had contact from other teaching agencies back in Ireland and stumbled across Impact through pure chance online.

They really look after their teachers and are really friendly and helpful. I have had plenty of work with them since I moved over and they have a variety of schools spread across London and the Greater London Area.

I’d have no problems in recommending Impact to my friends or to fellow teachers-I have no doubt that like me they wont regret signing up!!

The charitable ethos of this agency is a huge attraction and it serves as a reminder that there are people less fortunate than us around the world. Impact provide opportunities to teachers and pupils in the UK and Third World that no other agency can.

Overall, I definitely can’t complain. I was a bit nervous coming from Canada based on the reviews from this website, but honestly, since I’ve started, I’ve been fine. The least work I’ve had was three days in a week, in my first two months with them but I’ve been full time since then which is great. Sometimes there are failed communications but I’d rather get called twice than not at all. This said, Impact is the only agency I have been with in London, but I have no desire to look for another, even for supplementary work. The schools are hit and miss. . . Some absolutely great ones and some challenging ones, but I’m sure that’s anywhere.

I have and will continue to recommend Impact to my friends.

Really nice people who generally do look out for your best interests. The work started off slow for the first 2 weeks, but then I had full time supply with them everyday, for 3 months before finding a long term posting. Social bunch with regular get togethers for teachers. I find the pay is fair. The schools you get sent to can sometimes be challenging, but what school isn’t. I find contact from them regular and to the point, I’d rather have too much then too little.

I do find though that since staff seem to change as peoples visas finish, or find other jobs, that the people who you deal with do change. So I found it really useful to pop in regularly, or keep in touch with the agency, just so the new people know your face. Also to let the agency know what you want out of them, I found it helped getting work

They were friendly, prompt and always very helpful.
Moving to London form Australia was a very big deal for me. Impact made the transition as smooth as possible. They got me work immediately and they managed to find me a contract that eventually led to full-time permanent work. From what I have heard from my fellow Aussie teaching travellers, I doubt competing agencies can match the service Impact provided me.
Also, I thoroughly enjoyed the charitable aspect of Impact Teachers and embarked on two charity missions (to Uganda and India) with Impact Teachers. A truly rewarding experience.

I am really surprised reading the other reviews on the site – though many of them seem to be from short term supply teachers. From the view of a full-time secondary teacher, I was with impact for only a few weeks before i had this full-time secondary teaching position.
I have also been on the charity trips to both Uganda and India with this agency, which is a wonderful opportunity and experience, where we are hugely taken care of – lifechanging in the best possible way!

    Impact are fantastic.
I am a British Teacher working who was working in London and Impact used my school to supply lots of teachers- all of whom had nothing but positive things to say about the organisation.
It was through these verbal recommendations that I contacted them myself to explore the option of working for their charity.
On three occasions I travelled with Impact, twice to Uganda and once to India. These trips were life changing.
I was supported by the Impact team every step of the way, including pre- trip training sessions, information packs etc. We were then escorted on the trip by a leader from Impact and given the opportunity to stay with local families and experience the real country- nothing like the type of experience/holiday you would have as a tourist.
I was given the opportunity to plan and deliver lessons in teaching styles to the local teachers and to observe the lessons within the local schools.
The trips were were well planned, the leaders professionals and our resources of the highest quality. These trips improved my own teaching, made me question and reflect on my own professional development. I believe I am a better teacher from these experiences.
We were also given the chance to explore the local area, socialise with our host families and even do a little bit of shopping. If I only I hadn’t emigrated I would still work with Impact- not only do they care about the teachers that work for them they are changing the world we live in.

The agency was helpful in setting up a bank account and showing how to get paid through an umbrella company. I dealt with two very helpful and friendly staff members. After moving to England I had steady full time work at a school in East London that had a great and friendly staff but, was a very rough school for a first year teacher. My second teaching job through the agency was outside of London in a much nicer school and I received a contract, it was a much better teaching experience overall.
Since moving back to Canada the staff members have been very helpful providing any information or references that I need for future employers.

    My Impact experience was brilliant!

I secured a science post at an Outstanding school in Surrey. The principal told me that they often choose Impact Teachers because their staff are good. Impact contacted me often to make sure that everything was running smoothly. The were always helpful, explaining: how the schooling system works, terminology, Umbrella companies, holidays, National Insurance numbers, how to set up bank accounts etc.

I highly recommend Impact as the agency to choose if you are interested in teaching in England!

I had lots of work straight away because Impact supplied me with a lot of work. All the schools I worked at had something good to say about Impact and their teachers. I left London to go to France for a year and when I needed to come back, Impact were really helpful and found a long term placement for me (in a school I had worked at a lot previously) the day after I made contact again. They were also very professional but friendly and easy going. If I had a problem, they would get onto it straight away. I worked for Impact Teachers for my first year in education and spent the whole year at one school. Before accepting the position Impact was very upfront with me about the difficulties I would encounter in British schools. It was my decision to take on the challenge and also my decision to stay at a poorly run and sometimes dangerous school, Impact staff offered to help me to find a new school and were supportive of all the choices I made. I could count on a weekly phone call to check-in and provide support and even after I had moved back to Canada Impact has always gone above and beyond to provide me with references and keeping in touch. The one area I felt they lacked in was that teachers in my school from other agencies often had agencies who would negotiate higher salaries more voluntarily, this seemed to be an area that Impact required more push from the teachers they employed. Overall, my experience working with Impact was a positive one and one I would be willing to repeat any time!

I arrived from Canada with Impact and another agency working for me. While both provided arrival assistance, Impact felt much more personable. The people I met were friendly, outgoing and did their best to answer my questions. The first four months I did daily supply to some out of the way schools and some really rough ones. A good thing about Impact though is that they never force you to return to a school you do not want and your refusal does not affect any additional work you might get. Afterwards, I did two long term positions in two different schools, totaling 18 months of steady work. Impact was willing to negotitate my pay each time I asked; long term positions generally have a higher rate than their daily supply. Would I work with Impact again? Yes. Would I recommend them to a newly arrived teacher? Yes. They are great with helping you get established and offer plenty of social events for metting people. To other agencies, you are just a number. Not with Impact.

I emailed my contact details just for interest sake because I wasn’t sure about moving to the UK to teach. Impact straight away contacted me and explained everything from teaching to travelling to living in the UK. I was promised a full time position and this happened within a week. I had help with all my paper work and everything was very efficient. I was met at the airport and taken to my hotel (which they had recommended). After some time in Clapham, I travelled to my school and had acommodation already organised through the agency and my school. I had weekly contact for the entire two years of teaching in the UK and they acted straight away with any issues. Even after moving home, when needing any information from Impact, I received it straight away.
All I can say was that I would have liked to have known the person I dealt with to start off with was going to change once I arrived.

I signed up with Impact before heading over from NZ. The staff who I dealt with on the phone when registering as well as when I had my phone interview were super friendly and helpful.
Upon arriving in London, I signed up in person and was offered a days trial on the spot for a position that was likely to be the whole term. I’ve since stayed in that school full time and have to say I am so lucky after the horror stories that I hear about other schools. The children are amazing as are the staff.

I negotiated my rate of pay based on my experience (9 years including middle management) and the workload I was taking on and found that the staff at Impact acknowledged this and were very easy to deal with (I hate talking money with anyone!)

Teaching in London is a completely different ball game to home, yet I have been really pleased with the service I have received from Impact and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to others.

I signed up with Impact Teachers a month before I received a position through them. Despite the fact that I signed up late, my Impact representative was more than willing to work through all of the legalities with me, provided daily/weekly support as needed via phone and e-mail, and went beyond the call of duty to help me find temporary accommodation with fellow teachers before I arrived to a full-time position. My induction with the representative was relaxed and welcoming, and proved exceptionally useful in terms of getting necessarily accessorized (mobile, National Insurance, etc.). I’m extremely grateful for the follow-up calls to ensure that I was settling in well, as well as advice on accommodation rental prices.

Bottom line (quite literally) – the Impact representative with whom I was paired definitely worked for me. They have my vote.

I enjoy working with a company that makes a positive contribution to the world. Having done volunteer work with Impact, I have seen firsthand the positive work they do. Furthermore, I had a great experience working in Uganda. I was an immediate callback with a school, and due to my relationship with this one school, I have never been short of work.
The only issue I have ever had was that I don’t feel I was informed that I would not have had much of a chance going on the trips to Uganda and India within the first four months. This was problematic, as I was pretty clear that this was my primary motivation for working with Impact. However, this was when I was only planning on staying in England for 5 months. I have now been here over a year.
The staff have always been approachable and their effort to keep me happy exceeds my expectations. They are always checking up on me, asking how my post is going.

They are nice but a bit crap. While they get you a good bit of work as a secondary teacher it is often “cover supervisor” so you only get payed £70 for a day. Also most of the schools they send you to the kids are pretty feral. As well as this most of their schools are south of London, at least an hour away from the city. Nothing against the actual people who make up impact, but there are definitely better agencies out there.

I was first recruited by Impact at a job fair at my university. I dealt with a young lady who was professional in her attitude and dealings. They lined up an interview for me with a principal and vice principal who came to Canada, and I was offered a job. They negotiated a full time, permanent contract at a good rate of pay. Over the first year, they were always personable and ready to help.
In the second year, however, things changed considerably. The staff with whom I had dealt were no longer there, and the new staff seemed unwilling to offer any advice or assistance. Interestingly, even though I should have been “on their books”, I sporadically received emails from them finding my interest in working in the UK in “Apply to Education”. I am returning to the UK this September, and would have gladly given them my business had their service not gone so far downhill over the two years.
