Got a job as school support staff through Hays Manchester. I dealt with a young man there who was a total ‘player’ (I think this is the trendy term used). He seemed to be totally lazy, incompetent, inefficient and unprofessional. My DBS was not done until 2 weeks after I had registered, no contract nor information was given to me when I registered with them, he was generally useless at keeping me informed of what I needed to know before starting (P45 info etc) and he even relayed inappropriate info about me to the school I was supposed to be working for. I even think he lied to them about my capabilities!

Avoid Hays Education Manchester at all costs.

I applied to this agency in October 2016. They do not return phone calls or reply to emails. They claim to have checked my references and DBS. The DBS has not been checked. It is impossible to get through to anyone in a senior position. They came highly recommended by supply teachers but the Preston branch is failing them.

I have recently recommended working for Hats through their Brighton office. Danielle has been enormously helpful, very efficient and has arranged supply work which has exactly matched my skill set and my requirements. I have been impressed by the training opportunities I have been offered and feel that Hays has exactly the right approach when matching teachers and schools. Really happy to be working for such a professional organisation.

I wanted to thank you so much for your key role in finding me not one but two roles which have perfectly fitted my aspirations, ethos and changing situation. Finding a teaching job isn’t always straightforward, and for all sorts of reasons (in my case family commitments, finishing a Doctorate), teachers might not be in a position to follow the conventional application process at certain times in their lives. Job seeking can also be extremely stressful. Negotiating the ‘right’ match between individual and school with such a diversity of choice out there can be extremely tricky and potentially disastrous if the match is wrong.

So, having someone fighting my corner during this period has, in itself, been of huge value. In addition, having someone at the end of the phone (at all sorts of bizarre teacher-friendly times!) with time to really listen to my concerns and priorities and to take the time to work out what I stand for and match me to a job accordingly has been incredibly valuable. On both occasions, I feel the match between me (my values, experience and priorities) and the school has been really well considered and thought through. As well as this, I have been so impressed with how you have negotiated a role that fits exactly what I’d hoped for at each stage. I am very excited about he journey ahead and in debt to you for your role in it – without you, it wouldn’t have happened.

I have some idea of the demands you must be under in the current climate (and the long hours you work), yet you have approached this task with dedication, utmost professionalism and tireless hard work and I am extremely grateful to you. I am recommending your work to everyone I know! It’s a bit like going to a good dentist – I hope this will set me off on a prolonged and happy stint which will take me through the next few years and I won’t need you for a while, but also know that if I do need to call on you again, I will be in excellent hands.

The Hays UK staff were professional and helpful, assisting me with the much needed information for an easy transition. They provided me with not only amazing career, however also life experience. Nirenderi in particular, looked after me and even made a call after my first teaching day to see how I went! Hays was flexible as an employer – (I still manage to travel around Europe!), and I was exposed to a wide range of schools as a supply teacher. From an administrative stance, pay was always in on time, and if the pay slip was incorrect, it was always sorted quickly, without the need to hound them!

Tobie Costa worked very closely with me and understood my specific needs, and took great care in handling my case! He maintained constant contact with me to ensure I was up-to-speed with all developments, which I really appreciated. I’m very glad I met him and was able to work with him!

My working relationship with Hays Education London Victoria has been outstanding. My consultant Sonik has been very cooperative and has provided me with various supply work in many schools including nursery, primary and secondary both as a supply teacher and as a teaching assistant from day one. I have been registered with Hays Education London Victoria since September 2015.

I have an amazing working relationship with my agent. He is honest and very supportive. I was able to land myself a long term post with his support and guidance. However, I do think they don’t have many school contacts in Tower Hamlets which is a shame because I want to work in that specific borough. Overall, I think it’s a great agency.

The only low rating is the pay, but that is no reflection on the people obviously.
It is just that I get paid the exact same amount as I did 8 years ago when I briefly worked for Hays. Only in those 8 years my rent and bills have doubled, so it feels like I had a massive pay cut!

I registered with the London Victoria branch at the start of this year after seeing an ad on LinkedIn. Hays (Education) had also been recommended to me about a month prior by someone who had signed up to a branch near/around Brighton in the past.
Quite surprised to read the above reviews as the service I have received has been nothing but excellent.
My agent, Tobie Costa has been a great help and I’d recommend getting into contact with him if you’re looking for a role in Education. Very efficient, friendly and professional service from Tobie. Thanks to him and Hays, I’ve found a school I’m extremely happy at, and have regained my love for teaching!

I was given the best guidance, with the utmost consideration and care. I can guarantee that HAYS will go above and beyond to help you. Since I have joined HAYS I have had work placements every week. The staff members at this agency are ever so kind and friendly. I have worked for other agencies however HAYS has to by far be the most excellent! Highly recommended this agency.

I moved to London from Australia in 2013. When I was ready to look for work, I googled ‘best teaching agencies in London’. Hays came up on my screen and how true it was ! I had a truly great experience with Hays. Interview was arranged swiftly. Paperwork sorted within days. And work found the week after. What I truly enjoyed was the care factor given to me by my agent, Nirenderi Pillai. She took the time to get to know me on a personal level. She listened to what exactly what I was looking for professionally while also understanding that I wanted to travel Europe occasionally. I would highly recommend Hays and especially Nirenderi Pillai.

I worked for Hays London for 18 months while on a working holiday from Australia. My whole experience with Hays was positive. Through their Sydney office I was able to get all my paperwork ect organised before I left. I arrived in London on a Wednesday and was in schools teaching the next Monday due to Hays having everything organised.

I was on a guarantee scheme which meant i worked 5 days consistently during my time. Pretty much all by bookings were made in advance so I knew where I was going, without having to wait for a morning phone call. The quality of the schools was good, and my consultant (Nirenderi) also took into consideration where i lived. As a result I had a lot of work close to home.

I highly recommend Hays and my consultant Nirenderi from the Hays London office.

Hays London office has been a hugely helpful agency since I arrived in the UK in Aug,15. I first dealt with Hays through their Sydney office and everyone there was also very helpful, knowledgeable and personable. They made the transition very easy and stress-free.

I have not had any issue with the London office. The staff are friendly regardless of if they are your specific agent or not and are always available to take your calls and questions.

I started with a full time position for the Autumn term but after realising full time wasn’t for me I had no issue from Hays in swapping over to a Supply based contract. I now work in a variety of schools both local or within a reasonable travel time.

In terms of rate of pay and amount of work I am happy with what I receive from Hays as having spoken to other teachers from other agencies I understand that Hays offers roughly the average going rate for daily work give or take a few. I work 5 days a week almost every week, with the odd quiet one which can only be expected in schools. The online timesheet portal is also very useful as you do not need to get any hardcopy time sheets filled out.

Majority of schools I have been too have been great. I know that a lot of the recruiting agents at Hays do go and inspect many of the schools to some extent beforehand so I will often be told what they schools are like in terms of students and behavior before I accept.

I cannot speak for other Hays Offices but the London office has overall been wonderful with friendly and helpful staff. I’d recommend them to any teachers seeking an agency.

I’m really surprised to see the negative reviews on here. I have been registered as a supply teacher with Hays in London for almost two years and they have always been very professional and straight with me from the outset. They have consistently placed me in good quality schools. My main consultant, Nirenderi, has always been very supportive, reliable and easy to communicate with. There has also been useful CPD as well, in the form of free seminars. There was one on behaviour management which I found particularly helpful.

I have had an excellent experience with Hays. All the recruiters who are in my part of the country have always found me a suitable position. They listen to where I want to go and how much work I want and this is a refreshing change as I have not experienced this with other agencies. I am regularly kept in the loop, and they take the trouble to look ahead for me and book me for schools with whom I have a good relationship. They have been most accommodating and I am very grateful and thank them for keeping me as busy as I choose to be.

I got in touch with Luke Hallam and he found me more than one contract for the term within 24 hours. He was working for me before my paperwork was in and has not stopped. He negotiated my pay with the school I chose and dug his heels in and stood up for me to get me more pay than they wanted to give. He has filled out pay sheets for me and kept up with me, with a great sense of humour, all along. I registered with 2 other agencies on the same day, and they both got back to me just last week (a month later) to ‘discuss some possibilities.’ I recommend Luke and Hays and will always use them in future.

Shame I cannot give a zero to the London Branch in Victoria. Registration process is endless and they tend to lost the papers (copies) you provide and they dare to contact you a month after that they couldn’t clear your file as they needed a proof address. Then they have this health questionnaire which is full of nonsense questions. They even want to know where you travelled and the dates like which I found absurd. Maybe they should add “how many times you go to loo? ” They pretend to be a serious agency by having these types of procedures but actually they are just a bunch of i…ts making you waste your time. Avoid at all cost this agency!!!!

They called me after seeing my CV online. I went to interview where I was promised that I would be found work quickly. I got absolutely ZERO work from them. When I was offered work it was miles away from where I lived (4-5 hour round trips) and due to my situation I could not travel very far which they knew. Never responded to any of my emails. Also I never received my DBS certificate from their DBS check nor was I provided with tracking details for it. If I had of got work they would have deducted £45 from my pay for a certificate I never received. Wish I never bothered joining them. Ended up finding permanent work by myself. Avoid!

I joined the Huddersfield office last year after they contacted me – I had placed my CV online and had forgotten about it. Some of the details were out of date but I went along to the interview and sorted it all out. It took a long time for the agency to get me on to their books (chasing my references) but they did finally begin to get me work. It was a little slow at first but it picked up. I had an issue with pay as I felt I should be getting more than I did when I was an NQT and that was put up a little.
My first consultant was a nice girl and did get me some work but when looking at long term roles would send me for interviews out of my comfort zone.
After a few months I had a new contact at the agency who is amazing. She managed to get me a long term role and raise my pay which was brilliant. She is approachable and I know I am able to talk to her and raise any concerns. She is on my side if anything happens. She frequently rings just to check how I am and to make sure there are no problems.
The Huddersfield branch is very friendly and they have frequent get togethers, coffee mornings, during half terms so that the workers and consultants can get together to just have a chat and feel like we are part of a team. Much better than having just a voice on the phone!
I have had a great experience with them unlike with previous agencies.

As a supply teacher who had lost her mojo, I was made to feel like a low pay justfied the ‘dip in’ role as they said ‘supply teachers just deliver the lessons. Period’ I think their mentality is to work predominantly for the school and the teacher very much second. They never offer good rates and always justify it that you have to do the planning to get the rate you’re qualified to do. They don’t get back to you when negotiating on a job and I have to do the chasing. Really wanted a pt role and they gave it to someone else as I wanted £5 more per day! Not professional.

I registered with the Manchester branch at the end of May and sInce the beginning of Sept the consultant has ignored my calls and emails. I have heard nothing from them regarding possible work, absolutely hopeless.
Other agencies have contacted me at the end of each week to enquire about my availability. Far more pro active.
    My advice – avoid Hays.

After 15 years of teaching I signed up with Hays in their Reading Branch to do some supply work. I have to admit I was very nervous about supply but I now have a 3 day a week temporary job in a lovely school in Reading. It still means I can do supply for the other two days so I can still experience different schools. and my consultant is very helpful with everything! I signed up with Capita as well but have found that they don’t care about their teachers as much as Hays do. She calls me regularly to find out how i’m getting on and helped with my time sheets when I was unsure of how to set them up. I do have to admit their time sheet system is quite difficult to set up but I was guided through it initially and now it’s straightforward to use.

After 3 years working for Hays Education (Bristol branch) I’m at the end of my tether and won’t be going back to them after the summer holidays. When I first started with them the consultant was very experienced and excellent at his job. I worked every day (albeit in a few really unpleasant schools) and had several longer term assignments, although they always seemed to make sure it was less than 12 weeks so that they didn’t have to increase my pay. However, after about 18 months he was promoted and since then has been replaced by a succession of incompetent fools who cannot do their job properly. They are also dishonest about staff changes, the person I was dealing with suddenly disappeared but for nearly a month other people in the office avoided questions about why she wasn’t able to take calls or answer emails. Their new favourite thing is to only find me afternoons of work, which I get paid £35 for – not worth the time or petrol, or to ask me to go to schools 30 miles away for half a day. Communication is also very poor and several times over the last couple of months I’ve turned up to schools that aren’t expecting me, so I’ve wasted petrol getting there and also don’t get paid for the day! They’re just shocking, avoid at all costs, there are plenty of other agencies in the area that surely can’t be as bad!

I’ve NEVER had trouble finding work – until I encountered Hays. A busy science teacher, I went out of my way to attend their interview / application. Rushed off after school, had to catch two buses etc. They assured me they’d have lots of work for me and I was an asset. After a long wait with no follow-up, I sent three emails to various people and got NO response. Called and was told I had to wait longer (!). I gave up on them. Months later, they have the audacity to contact me to recommend fellow teachers. I shared the thoughts I am sharing now and told them never to contact me again.

I signed up in feb and was promised once application complete they would have no problem getting me in a school as there were a few vacancies in my areas. Heard nothing after a few weeks rang them and the man that signed me up had left and they were trying to complete my application asap. Heard nothing since! This company has bad communication skills

    Not even worth 1 star.
Waste of time. Waste of giving up a day of work to meet with. Waste of petrol. Waste of space.

Team in Wolverhampton are liars! In particular the guy who deals with Walsall primary schools.

Firstly, after going all the way to the branch which takes me 1 hour in the car, the guy who dealt with me (and also deals with Walsall primary schools), left my CRB in the photocopier. I phoned the out of office number when I returned home as it was after 6pm. He promised to phone me the following morning as I needed the CRB for work with another agency that day. I did not receive a phone call at all. It was only when I wasted a day of work myself to go all the way back to the branch to get my CRB that they were apologetic.

After being told it will take 2 weeks to get fully registered, I phoned, and was greeted with excuses about not being able to get my references.

The next few weeks (when they were suppose to finalise my registration) I had work with another agency up until Christmas, so no contact from them, or myself was made.

Shortly after new year, I had a phone call from the agency saying they are sorting my references and I will be set up with work for the new year.

‘I will ring Tuesday, oh, no, maybe Wednesday next week’. That one week then turned into 4 months and this same deceitful man decides to call today saying he is chasing up my references.

Well I hope after my not so kind words this morning he gets a grip and starts treating people that ‘he really needs’ with some respect and common decency.

Awful experience, would not recommend, but I have had great experiences with Aspire People and ABC Teachers.

I registered with the Leeds office of Hays back in the summer of 2011 and through them have had the happiest three years of my working life on supply. The entire team are always pleasant and very efficient and my own recruitment officer is charming, helpful and friendly, and extremely competent. I have been working at the same outstanding school full-time (apart from a brief gap at the beginning of this academic year) ever since 2011. Pay rates are excellent and holiday pay is deducted from source. Perchance the Leeds branch is an exception! :)

Wish I hadn’t bothered to register with them. I wanted to start supply in a new area we had moved to and also required a new CRB check. I registered the beginning of August but they didn’t process my CRB application until after a complaint from me in the 3rd week in September after another agency explained it should have been cleared by then. I had to turn down work and lost money.

Hayes have never apologised or contacted me for any work in my subjects even though they advertise regularly. Not sure if this is just Exeter but have heard from other supply teachers with similar experiences .

    AVOID if you can

Last year, I was on MPS 6 having done supply teaching for about 12 years on and off. I’m currently doing a maternity cover that began before the school holidays, and, knowing about the Agency Worker Regulations, I expected my pay to match MPS6 after twelve weeks of work. Week 12 arrived – no change of pay. I phoned the local Hays office to ask why my pay had remained the same. “Did you expect a pay rise?” I was asked. Well, erm, yes, I did actually, as they’d been paying me the equivalent of an NQT on MPS1… Apparently Hays haven’t worked out how they’re going to deal with Performance Management – even for those of us on long term assignments – so they’re not bothering… which means that even on a long-term role, your pay will stay the same. Be warned, people, and check what the other agencies are doing about it!! Oh, and if you know of any other good agencies in the Gloucester/Wiltshire area, let me know!!!

Hays Liverpool. Shocking experience of bad service. Registered weeks ago, no feedback, nothing. I emailed and phoned several time, but the only thing I got was a rude and aggressive lady telling me that there weren’t any jobs in Liverpool or the Wirral for teachers in French or Spanish!

Hays of Liverpool were the most appauling agency that I have ever worked with. I registered with them over a year ago, chased up my referees, got the CRB done and paid for, never heard a word from them until today! Despite me sending several e-mails to them and contacting them by phone. I went with Connect this year and they have been a million times better. Hay’s had the cheek to contact me today to say I had to come in and re-register! Plus they would have to get new references. When challenged the consultant said things were picking up!I told him in no uncertain terms what I thought of him and Hay’s. Please if you are looking for supply in Liverpool and the Wirral avoid these people at all costs. Connect and Reed’s are much more reliable.

Got sent to a completely inappropriate job that did not match my skill set. Having worked there for a couple of weeks, Hays did not bother to discuss the school’s concerns with me. It’s taken months to get paid for some of the work I have done, because there was a fault with their connect log in system to submit timesheets.

Seriously don’t bother with this agency. I found work with one of the top 5 agencies named on this website within a week of joining them. Hays, on the other hand, wrote to me two months later saying they lost my cv. Can I send it again and what did I want anyway? Totally useless.

A disgrace, agency in Wolverhampton and the main agency in London, very rubbish, lied over the phone, had be register twice and failed to find any work. When i went into the agency to register, the agency was dis-organised. I worked with Hays Accountancy many years back and they were great, its a shame that the people employed now are not good and that’s why they lose their recruits to other agencies. I registered with a new agency in bham after (NOT hays) and they were excellent.

Where to begin? First of all, they took more than 4 months to get me registered. Yes, four months! For long periods of time they did not have a designated consultant for me and I was unable to talk to anyone in the office. Despite leaving messages on a regular basis, I never received a call back from them. So many excuses about why they hadn’t finished the procedure more quickly, blaming everything from schools to the postal service. When they finally, FINALLY completed my registration, there was no work for me. What an unbelievable waste of time. I have given them 2 stars for honesty because at least they had the decency to admit that my registration had taken far too long. I would advise anyone working in Worcestershire to steer well clear of this company.

I would say the Manchester branch is pretty good with lots of work, day to day and longer term. They tend to pay cover supervisor rate alot but that depends on the school really. I always got paid on time and staff were really helpful. However, the Leicester branch was shocking. I got a decent amount of work but had issues with being paid on time, timesheets wouldnt appear on the online system for days and days. I constantly had to ring and chase it up. Work was often promised then the school would cancel in the morning which isnt the agencies fault but highly annoying. New staff didnt seem to know what they were doing.

Recruited me for a specific post which was good as it was a local school and was for a term and a half. However once the placement was finished there was no further work and they removed me from their staff when I was working for other agencies on placements…..OK agency if you give them exclusivity, but limited work available with them.
